Air Filter?

Wanted to change the air filter in my 2017 Titan this weekend, but to my surprise, they are extremely hard to find. The dealer has one, but I cannot find it anywhere online, except for a K&N. any thoughts? My thoughts was that it might be still new.

Your truck is still very new, I couldn't imagine that you need to change the filter. Are you trying to do it at a set interval or something? I change mine every 10k, way more than necessary, but its my preference, so I understand...

No auto parts stores? Really?

Yea, i just checked autozone to verify...no dice. just a jank k&n pod filter thing. It is a panel filter right? just a flat filter?

I couldn't imagine they would be that much different from OE first gens. I guess the new radical design changes required Nissan to change the airbox and filter design as well. What about 2016 model air filters. Will those fit?

I went with a full K&N cold air intake. Took about an hour to complete the install. I also have a Magnaflow 18in exhaust...the whole thing sounds MEAN AS HELL now when you mash the throttle! And not having to change the filter as often is an added bonus! I recommend to everyone...

K&N doesn't make a filter for the NON XD yet. When you do the vehicle selection on the K&N site, it brings you to this filter but TRUST ME, it DOES NOT FIT THE NON XD. I bought it and had to return it. They do sell the Cold Air intake which is what I went with, and let me tell you!! It is Bad A$$!! Sounds awesome and makes the whole truck come to life.

I would be weary of the drop-in filter as one reviewer specifically stated it does NOT fit 2017 gas non-XD, this is why I went with the full cold air intake

Truth--- it's basically the same air filter with an extra sliver piece on it to fit the new Air Box style

Be careful that you get the proper sized filter from the dealership. I phoned my dealer to see if they had the air filter and they said "Yes - we have one" so I told them to hold it as I would be right down. To my surprise when I opened the box and looked at it, I thought to myself "This isn't going to fit" - sure enough it didn't fit. Luckily I was still at the dealer so I went back to parts (taking my old filter with me) and showed them the two filters and how much larger the filter that they gave me was compared to my old one. The parts guy said that when I had phoned, they put in my vehicle's VIN and this was what it showed. So when he looked again, apparently there are two different air filters for 2017 Titan and so they had to special order the right filter. Finally got the right filter - Did Nissan change the filter between my truck (09/16 build) and now ???

So has this been resolved yet? I went to 3 auto parts places today for an air filter and was told all 3 times that one isn’t listed? Nissan part only still? ( no I don’t want a CAI or a K&N)

Looks like STP makes one, but most auto parts stores don't carry them in stock, must order, not sure if they are available in Canada

I was in Walmart the other day getting oil and happened to look for an air filter and noticed none are listed in the fram book. I find that odd.

I considered a cold air intake. After looking at air box I though a their is plenty of room for a cone filter in the stock air box. The stock air box pulls cold air from the fender. So why pay $300-$500 for a system to replace what is already their for basically the same thing? And some cold air intakes are not blocked off and pull hot air from the engine bay. So I bout got a HA4250 k&N cone filter and to adapt the box to be able to mount it, I got a 22.5 degree 3” pvc elbow from Lowe’s. I now have a $300-$500 system for a $10 mod. Best part it can be pulled out for services so Nissan can not void the warranty.

These do still seem to be kind of hard to get, at least here in Canada. Went for an oil change this weekend and the kid at Oil Changers popped it out, much dirtier than I was expecting for 22,000km. Then they realized they couldn't sell me one because none in stock. Stopped at Canadian Tire (large auto-parts store) nada there or any other of their stores in the area. The guy checked a couple of other competing auto-parts retailers for me, zip, zilch.

Went home and found only 1 option on Amazon.ca Generic brand, will be arriving tomorrow Prime delivery. Hoping that the quality is there, we'll see.

Can someone please help!! I have a K&N cone air filter for more air on my 2018 titan. Not sure if it is coincidence or if the extra air is causing the problem. I put the filter on DOD not do the reset or unhook the battery. Let it run for a bit few revs everything seemed fine. Left for work next morning and about 20 minutes later my truck would shake violently and refuse to shift gears and the traction light came on (not the on off light). I pulled over restarted light went off drove a bit and had same issue. I turned around and headed home not being able exceed 35-40 mpg. I realized if I manually shift the truck would shift hard until 6th gear and run smooth as silk. By this time check engine light also came on (to be expected until ecm relearned the air fuel mixture). I put the stock filter back in went to Nissan the ran diagnostics and got mass air flow sensor code ( active/ also expected) and engine signal one abs, and BCM (pass codes/ not active) the drive to Nissan I had no issues. They cleared the codes all was well. I put my k&N co e filter and adapter back on did the ecm relearn/ reset. Drove the truck no check engine light yet, but got the same shaking and refusal to shift and traction light. Again manually shifted to 6th and ran smooth again. Got home let it idle a bit few easy revs all seems fine. Shut engine off restarted and still no check engine and the traction light is gone. Is the air filter causing these problems or is it an underlying issue that the truck is finding while it is “searching” for the cause of the “new” input aka more air.

I'm just gonna

When you put the stock filter back in place, what do you do with that extra pipe that you cut out of the box? I was actually going to mention that the hole you've made in the box probably needs to be sealed around the pipe, which will make it harder for you to switch back to stock. The whole system would need to be under vacuum, and introducing that hole seems a little advantageous, IMO. I've seen MAFs scream for something as trivial as a greasy fingerprint on the sensor, so I can't imagine it not screaming about your setup. Seems like you have a vacuum leak somewhere. If you're just replacing the OEM filter for it to stop screaming, then it would seem that it might be a fitment issue with the new filter. Me personally, I wouldn't use the kind of setup you have unless I'm sure that I've covered all air leaks, and the filter is doing its job. If going OEM resolves your issue, I don't see Nissan trying to fix what essentially isn't broken.

My first guess is the filter is an oiled filter and is over-oiled. It has fouled your MAF sensor and is causing problems. But that's just a guess.

New filter never re-oiled. But not unreasonable as they may have over oiled at factory. I will maybe try MAF sensor cleaner. But doesn’t explain why the problem goes away when stock filter is in place and sensor has not been cleaned and or replaced. But also cannot see more air causing these problems as thousands of truck owners put CAIs in all the time. Which is essentially what I did. I just adapted the stock box that already pulls cold air from fender to hold a cone filter. Thanks for the input.

This is the part that I'm referring to.

I would also avoid running with that setup for prolonged periods as you could really do some damage by driving around with either too much or too little air.
Thank you sir. Lesson learned. I am not an engineer and shortcut isn’t worth it. I’ll run stock filter or K$N drop in replacement.
