anyone know if the 2004 nissan titan ???

i have a Nissan titan se with the 5.6 5 speed trans off road/ tow package that is 2Wheel drive does anyone know if when Nissan built this truck did it originaly come with a dana rear in it or is the rear in this truck I own a swaped out rear what rear brands did they use on the original stock 2004 crew cab off road 2 wheel drive my rear on it now ( Since I bought the truck) has a dana emblum on it and theres a number inside the rear with 729.6 stamped on it there is also a lot of numbers on the cover plate where the dana emblum is. reason im asking cause I think someones been putting the wrong parts on my truck and I think the rear might not be the stock one they have been going off the vin with any help would be great

The original rear end is a modified (specifically for the Titan) Dana.

But yeah, a picture will let us be able to tell you for sure if yours is stock or not.

ill put up some pictures and maybie someone can tell me wtf I got going on here from what im being told the rears shot I need a new one but I need to find someone that can maybie give me a call an chat a minute and see cause this rear is killing my pockets. I know most mechanics but I don't rebuild rears or trans. so im kinda up**** creek here. so anyone that knows a lot about this rear please shoot me a message.

here's the rear I got if you need more pics let me know and if anyone can give me any info please let me know I need to figure what to do this truck is my way of living for me and my family its a great truck except for this stupid problem.

Yeah, a non-zoom would be better. But, having owned 2 2004's, that looks like the stock stamped steel cover. I've not heard of anyone adapting any other rear axle into these trucks, so I'd just about guarantee that's what you have.

If the rear is FUBAR, you have 3 options:

1. Complete rear axle swap
2. Replace guts with stock gears
3. Replace guts with True-trac gears.

Most people would probably opt for #3, as the gears are stronger and likely to give you longer life. What I've seen here, that also tends to be the cheapest option, unless you find someone selling a good used set of original gears. You would be best served getting an experienced differential shop to put the gears in since you indicate you're not good at that mechanically, as it's easy to screw it up and destroy the gears; this truck has a lot of power in the first place and the rear is not the greatest.
