Ok I am thinking about a Gtech( I think that is what you call them.) Since I saw buzzes video of the G teched Titan. I didnt know it was something that just stuck to the front window, I thought It was much larger than that. Im pretty dumbed on this subject so I am looking for someone to tell me where I can get one and how much? Also How easy are they to hook up? Does it just tell you how fast in the 1/4 mile and speed or other good info about what is going on in the engine? Is there other brands that might be better or worse? Can it easily be transfered to another vehicle? I did a search but the reading is extensive to find out all the info. Thanks!!

Yea I guess you are right I would need to be courtious and turn my blinker on when I get in front of the hemi too!! All in fun. Thanks for the info. I was 1 click from buying one about 10 mins ago but I really wanted this info before I commit. When you say accelarating do you mean torque and HP or just the speed?

LOL!!! As long as you signal I will not get mad.

I meant speed but the SS and RR are set up
to do HP and TRQ as well.

The cheapest buy now on Ebay was $189 plus shipping and tax I found this ($195) on the net with free shipping and no tax. I was wondering if the ebay ones had a warranty. Im not sure about buying one now. I was looking for something that might give the info as it was happening. But I guess that is to much to ask for. Im not a big racer so I was looking to have it there for if I happen to hit it, I could look down and see my times there with out thinking about it. Decisions, decisions .

Just do it bro.

Helinut, where are you buying from? I was looking on Ebay, they seems to be a little cheaper but after reading Gtech's website, it stated while they might be brand new, Gtech will not warranty it unless it's an authorized dealer. I might just have to wait abit for more $$ and get from Gtech themself.

Order the RR. You will be happy. Yes, any of the acceleration data (quarter mile and intermediate times, time v. speed, horsepower over time, horsepower and torque measurements) all require you begin from a standing start, and they don't give you real time output. This data appears on the screen at the end of the run and you scroll through the various options. You do have to save the data to memory after each run or ditch it before you can set up for the next one but that very simple. I don't recall how many runs it will store in internal memory but it is a lot -- probably a dozen or more runs. And it does download to your computer where you can get much better detail on the data.

The lateral g-force stuff can be read in real time I understand, but I don't use mine for the purpose so I don't have much experience. You can set a flashing light alarm to go off at a predetermined lateral g-force just short of a skid, if you know your actual lateral acceleration limit, which is kinda cool. Problem is that value changes with road surface and weather conditions, however.

What is displayed in real time is G forces. Braking, accelarating,
turning left and turning right. In order to conduct a run you push
the OK button and wait for a flashing light. You are then good to go.
In answer to you Hemi race Q. You have to stop first. Then push the
OK button like I just described. You will not store any info unless
you activate the unit. If you happened to come up along side
of my Hemi activating the Gtech will be the last thing you need to
worry about! Just toying with ya!! Got to play sometime.

Helinut1970.... I would not let that stop you from
buying one because you can't be moving and activate
it. It will be very usefull to see which mods work. And
don't work. I just found that turning my side view mirrors
in did nothing to improve performance. The Gtech is a very
useful tool. Who wants to dyno and track test your vehicle
everytime you do a mod? I could not afford it. The Gtech will
pay for itself over time.

Does the Gtech give constant info in real time or does it give the info only when you press a button. In other words as I am driving will it continue to give the current info as I stop and go in normal driving, or do I need to stop, prep it, for a run and then punch it and it will only give the info for that time frame, then you have to set it up again? The reason I ask is, If I am driving normally and I happen to find a good area to let it rip, I want to hit it and look at it, and then drive on. I dont want something that I need to stop set it up and then run. Or If lets say a Hemi pulls up to me at a light and Im not thinking about the Gtech and I run the hemi and then say " Crap I forgot to hit the button" Will the unit automaticlly store that info?

Gtech website stated triaxial accelerometer covering all three axes (x,y and z).

I wanted to look it up so I wouldn't have to put my foot in my mouth later, by definintion an accelerometer measures accerlartion. G-tech must be calling them accelerometers, just for name recognition. Most people would not know what a velometer is.

They must be using velometers, a triaxial accelrometer is a velometer. The old aircraft balancing equipment uses accelerometers and you have to use usually 3 to balance the rotor, with a velometer you only need one. They are basically the same except the number of axis.

If it measures side to side forces it has to have 2 accelerometers in it. I didn't know if gave side to side forces(skid pad) readings. No I agree we don't need vertical measurements.
I believe I read that mine has three (???) accelerometers. Yes, it does
give side to side as well a acceleration and braking forces.

The G-Tech measures both the front/ rear forces and the side to side forces. Don't think we need a verticle measurment.

Thanks for the info. You know more about it
than I do. I do know my Gtech is quite
accurate though. It is on of the best auto
related devices I think I have ever bought.
My Superchips programmer is probably second.
I don't have a G-tech yet, I will probably get one soon though. I have read on them a bit, and I am very familiar with accelermeters. Once you sit and think about them, they are fairly simple.

Hopefully they will switch to velometers instead of accelerometers. Velometers measure in 3 axis instead of accelerometers that only measure in one axis. With velometers we could get skid pad and other readings.

Oh yes!! The ol'e HONEY DO LIST!! And us men
thought slavery ended! LOL!!

The Gtech plugs into your cigarette lighter or
your 12V power port. Same thing. One is hot
all the time. One is hot with the ignition on
only. At least that is how it is on my Dodge.
How these things know how far you have
traveled, how fast your going and the time it
has taken is beyond me. I know that they
use accelometers and that the technology is
used in rockets and aircraft but it is amazing
how it knows the distance you have traveled.
Maybe Armada can shed some more light on
how it functions.
Accelerometers have been used in aircraft balancing equipment for decades. They measure movement in IPS(inches per second) this along with time can give you lots of different data. They measure the amount of force applied to a given weight for a given amount of time.

Sorry guys I didnt get back for so long I had a MAJOR honey doo project this weekend. So I guess E-bay is the place to get it. How does it plug in? Via the smokers port or into the truck computer? Thanks again!

I have one of the very old ones and it works great. But 1/4 mile times are hard get as you may endup going well over a hundred in some cars. The 0-60 function is most used for me. THe very best part about the g-tech is when some superduty guy tells you how bad-*** his smoker is and you go "oh yeah, lets see" and just slap the g-tech on his widshield and the truth will be known. My g-tech has humbled many braggers. i carry it with me at all times.
The older units were OK but many have complained
about their accuracy and consistency. The
technology has improved a great deal. If you leave
it in your vehicle I would be careful of leaving it in
the sun or in the hot interior of your vehicle.

Thanks Hemi and Armada, I'll save up a little more and go for the RR.

No problem. Enjoy:cheers:
