Just a heads up on a pretty good tool kit from Harbor Freight.

I just started automotive technology classes this week, and I needed a tool kit that I could carry to each class. It weighs about 50#. I found this deal at Harbor Freight Tools: Professional Mechanic's Tool Set - 301 Piece

Anyway, I'm pleasantly shocked at the quality of this set. The quality of each piece is at least equivalent to or better than Craftsman and also has a lifetime warranty. Durable carrying case and 301 pieces for $189, minus a 20% coupon, came to $151.99 before tax. I'm just throwing this out there for others that might want a decent tool kit for a great price. The 20% off coupon should be easy to find for Harbor Freight.

not a bad start but also pick up:
channel locks (3 pairs in various sizes)
vice grips (variety pack should be fine)
ball peen hammer
rubber head/plastic head hammer
punch set - should included drift pins for alignment and a few chisels
some sort of volt meter
dental picks

that should get you out of most jams

Thanks, i have all that and more scattered around the garage. I didn't have an easy way to transport the basic tools in an organized carrying case, so I had to bite the bullet on a new set.

Go get your self a set of Impact sockets while your at it. Even if your not using an air impact. You get a nasty stuck bolt/nut and put more than 120ft-lbs of *** those sockets are going to break. For what your doing these will be just fine though. BTW I have a 400pc Craftsman tool set my Dad bought be when I was 16 years old. As side from breaking two screw drivers and cracking a 10mm 3/8'' socket I have every single piece. That was 25 years ago and those tools have never let me down. I have made a living them and have pulled drive shafts and numerous repairs while lieing in the mud out on the trials. Of course over the years I have added to it. I have Snap-on, Mac and Matco. Even some China made wrenches I bought at k-Mart for $2.00 on clearance, had them for at least 10 years now.

That's a good deal, my son is looking at going to school for auto tech, the school provided a list of tools that are required for class, it was a little over 5k worth of Snap On tools and that was after the 40% discount.

Every now and then you can get some good stuff from HF. I bought a dayton 6000watt generator with a 11hp vanguard motor for $450 shipped freight and delivered to my door form HF.

I already have all those tools and more, but it would be nice to have a set like that to throw under the seat. When your out in the middle of nowhere all the tools in the world don't mean **** if they're back at your house lol

The carrying case measures 20.5" L x 14.75" W x 9" H and weighs about 50#. There's 4 layers of tools in box.

i also have their 1/2" drive torque wrench. i use it a lot and it works like a champ. i have also bought some swivels from them and 2 or 3 sockets. the sockets did not hold up very well and neither did my 3/8" breaker bar. i have a floor jack of theirs that i use all the time and floor stands too. for the price you pay for their tools, if it breaks, you aren't out that much to go buy another one. my buddy has a roofing nailer that he bought from them and he has abused the hell out of it and it still works great. i spent more than twice what he did on a name brand nailer. i am a firm beleiver in HF.

Everytime I buy something from HF I have to return it . I cant believe you guys are serious about the quality or lack of. Their chinese metal bends like cheese and none of their sockets or wrenchs are a good fit on nuts and bolts.
What am I missing here? Been turning wrenches for a long time and HF is not a good part of it. I only buy this stuff if I consider it one time use or throw away.

We are talking about the Pittsburgh Professional series of tools and not about every tool that HF sells.
