Yea we got some good options here. Plus the added capacity. Hope we can get enough orders.

Yea, it's the black powder coated one for me too. Might even add my own temp gauge too. Have to find a place to mount it on the dash. Any ideas ???

I don't see a drain plug?

I'm in too. Not sure about a polished one, but definitely at least the basic cast finish.

I'm in on the black one. I like polished but I don't feel like getting under there to clean it all the time

Factory drain plug is in the differential not the cover.

They need at least 20 prepaid commitments before they will start production. If they don't get 20 they will not charge your credit card. I already ordered mine. They need true commitments not just your word that you will buy one. I really like the fact that it has a larger capacity and a choice of finishes plus a place for a temp gauge. I might even order a couple extra to put on Ebay.

im in, ordered the pretty shiny one. i figure if im gonna go through the trouble to change it, im going all out lol. though i do like the powder coat.

That's the spirit. Only 18 more now. I also posted on Clubtitan so maybe we'll get some orders from them although I think it's mostly the same people on both forums. That's what I like, you got STYLE.

Warranty voiding upgrade?

If my warranty was up I would definitely go for this since it hold 3/4 quart more GL than the '05, and the design details sound like this is a superior product.

Since many of you are considering spending $150 minimum, $50 on fluid, and another $80 for an hour of a mechanic's time, unless you do it yourself, then you probably have some concerns about the Titan differentials' reliability too, and therefore want to do what is best for your beloved Titans.

In fact, some of our members, and two very recently, had their Titan's rear differentials go out. Nissan replaced the entire rear axle in at least one of the cases.

So my concern is that if you guys get this upgrade and have problems anyway, (from any existing damage due to the Nissan design, or from dirt contamination introduced during the upgrade), your warranty might not be honored.

When there is a component like this that is covered by warranty and it is a potential reliability risk I think it is best to not mess around with it. Once the warranty is expired then it makes sense to improve it with a superior design.

I don't think so. What are they going to say, you have too much fluid in the differential? I'll take my chances. Anyway if something does go wrong you can always put your old cover back on. The larger capacity has to be a plus.

thanks, just curious. I ordered the 05 diff. cover (on back order) should I have done that and replace it, only to extend the life of a badly engineered differential and have it fail after the warrantee? Or just go with the 04 cover and let it fail under warrantee.

PS I tow a 3800 lb boat most weekends during the summer 400 miles+ to the colorado river and various lakes. And yes I have replaed the diff. fluid with Mobile 1 70-140.

They could say the same thing about dirt if you installed Nissan"s new cover. It's just a cover. That's like saying you have to use Nissan's oil filters and air filters. Heck the first time the Nissan dealer changed my oil they only put in 5 quarts. Talk about service manager with a red face. He didn't know what to say. I wonder how many other Titans and Armadas they sent out with 5 quarts of oil.

Herbpov,
Do you think if they recieve the 20 pre-orders sooner they will start production early?

According to the Email that I got, they will start production as soon as they get 20 orders. If 20 orders are not received by May they will not start production end the program. I'm guessing if they 20 orders by next week they will start. 20 must be the break even point.

Since it is a Nissan part, and the Nissan Dealer installs it, I think you are covered while it's under your warranty. But you bring up a valid point that with the Nissan '05 cover, you might be pushing the point of fail time past the 36K mile/36 months. Personally I would wait for a recall, and for the same reason I will follow my '04 owner's manual and only use 80W90 GL, (until they send me an amendment to the manual).

Keep in mind though, only a small fraction of the rear differentials will likely ever fail, during the warranty period or after.

But if they do fail it is a ball-park $2000 replacement job, and that would suk big time, especially if you were still in warranty but you had to pay because of an after market modification, such as this differential cover.

Cool ordering now, Black powder coat for me! It's only money right?
This info should be posted in general discussion as it will get more views. A sticky would be even better.
