As the title says, I asking for comments and pictures of any Pro-4X's out there that replaced the factory Ranchos with the 5100's and put it on the middle perch. No other spacers or anything used, just the Bilsteins. My main question is how is the ride quality? I only have 2K miles on my 2015 Pro-4X and the factory Rancho's seem plenty stiff, so I'm wondering by pre-loading the Pro-4X springs by setting the Bilsteins on the middle perch just how much stiffer the ride gets. Thank you for the information and pictures if you have them.

i ran them on the middle perch (1") but along with 2" spacers, so anything i show you won't be what your looking for. BUT, it rode great, i ran it without the sway bar and loved it.

I'm really trying to avoid doing the UCA. I have read so many comments threads posted here over the years of the heim joints on aftermarket UCAs making noise, the pain in grinding down the tabs on the factory mounting locations, the maintenance involved maintaining the uniball in very salty climates (they salt the hell outta everything here in Michigan in the winter) etc. The reason I say this is I'm interested in the 1.5" spacer for the front, but it seems with the Pro-4X it is still hit"n miss with whether or not you'll have CBC with that spacer. Seems some do, some don't. If the Bilsteins give that much in the front without CBC and I also can upgrade the suspension at the same time, that's the route I wanted to pursue. After digging for a while, I did find where ARB makes a front "trim packer" that is used if you run their front bull bar to help compensate for the weight of it. If you run it without the bull bar, it gets you a 1/2" or so. I'm only doing this for a certain "look" really, as I have found the Pro-4X meets all my expectations for off road adventures, and then some. But it would be nice to upgrade the suspension if the Bilsteins don't beat you to death with an overly stiff ride. Say, the 5100's I heard have been redesigned, so that the lowest perch setting no longer still nets a half inch, correct?

Dirt king offers an uca with bushings instead of the uni ball. These won't have the issues you are concerned about. As for the tabs just use a dremel with a grinding stone and it's really easy. I used this when doing my lca tabs. Tried an angle grinder but it made it a lot harder to do.

the new ones are 0, 1, and 2" lift. IMO you will LOVE the 1" lift and no spacers, also will have no issues running the stock UCA. It wont be completely level, still have a little nose down rake, but itll ride great. hit up TAP for the best prices and customer service.

Also, you will get a bit more travel with the bilsteins, youll notice it off road, most dont because they run them with spacers, so the uca max's out lol.

Ok so I got the Bilstein 5100 package from TAP (fast shipping and great price by the way-Thank you TAP:)) and I'm looking over the front struts. That tiny little snap ring is gonna hold my PRO-4X springs in place?? I trust Bilstein knows what they are doing, but I can just see myself having a too much "fun" in the back country and that little thing breaks and my whole front end comes crashing down. I did a Google search on this, and it seems there was a rash of issues with corrosion and snapped rings from 2010'ish to 2013. After that I couldn't really find any more reported problems, so what ever was causing those issues must have gotten addressed by Bilstein. Anyways, ....thoughts?

I've blown two of them. Overheated one in death valley lol. Warrantied it. Then the same side went bad again. Not certain what happened but I decided to switch to coil overs and couldn't be happier.

One last thing before I have this done-I ordered the PRG adjustable end-links in case I needed them, but do I need them after the middle perch install? If so, Do I adjust them out the full inch, or just 1/2 inch longer than the stock end-links. Thanks again for all the help!

Not the best picture but that's the middle perch.
An like others said I beat the piss out of my 5100's an they held up just fine

I'd say where I live, the only issue I have is the long winters and all the salt/chemicals put down in the winter months. That's the primary reason I have not gone to coil overs as both ICON and King have not gotten back to me regrading whether they offer a special service to have all components in their coil overs treated (either anodized extra thick or some kind of Marine grade coating) to prevent the corrosion issues. I'd be more than willing to pay extra for it. As it is, I'm going to try out the Bilsteins for a while. The 5100's seem to have a good reputation around here as a nice upgrade. As far as them overheating, up here I doubt that would ever happen. I get maybe a solid week or two, at most, of temps touching 90 degrees F.

Ya I think the 5100s are great for most people considering the cost to benefit ratio. Do other shock companies offer cold weather protection on their shocks? I've never heard of that.

Mine overheated because I abused them doing 30-40 mph on the 27 mile dirt road to the race track in death valley. We went in the winter so it was about 70 out. So I think it was more the speed and distance on that super bumpy washboard road. Although if it were really really cold IDK maybe they would've survived.

Yea that's about what I figured when you said what you did about blowing one twice. The speed an the steady bumps makes the shock get pretty hot.
Doesn't have the big rod an body like say a 2.0-2.5 shock like you prolly have now.

Makes sense at that speed and distance. I'm really digg'n the ICON 2.5 coil-overs for the truck, just wish they had some kind of corrosion process that would allow the the whole assembly (I.E. all the individual pieces) to pass a 1000 hour or so (1500-2000 hour ideally) salt spray test. I know some of the high tech rifle barrel/breach coatings you can get now will approach 1100 hours salt spray test pass. Even if nobody in fact offers that kind of "option", I would be one of the few who would gladly pay the extra cost for such a benefit. Say, what about the PRG endlinks? Any of you run them after the middle perch setting?

A little off topic but is this your first titan?

#27 ·
When you got your 15 did you notice how much quieter it was then the other?

#28 ·
Also will yours go into tow mode with it in gear? Mine will only go in when in neutral or park. Kinda weird an seem to hold the gear longer

#30 ·
Yes. I can be driving and hit the Tow button and it lights up. All it does (to me) is hold a gear longer before shifting and when letting off the gas it tends to "gear down" and/or hold a gear instead of "coasting", like some sort of grade logic. I don't know this to be fact, only that's what mine does. This only works if I have it in "D". Once I move the shifter manually into "3" or lower, the Tow Mode button does not illuminate when pushed.

Yes. I was surprised because the only advertised changes were the new door panels and the one year only colors-Arctic Blue Metallic and Magnetic Black. Nothing else in press releases spoke of any NVH improvements. So I poked around my truck, along with the Master Tech at the Nissan Dealer I frequent (He was curious as well, as he had driven several Titans over the years, and made the comment the 2015's seem alot quieter than others). Here is what we found:

-Using Nissan's weatherstripping test from the FSM for technicians (basically measuring tolerances between door jams, alignment of doors and the "dollar bill" test on the tightness of the weatherstripping) we found that my 2015 had significantly tighter gaps. More even spacing between all gaps from front fenders to front doors, from rear of front doors to back swing out doors, and more weatherstripping "squeeze out" when the doors are shut. The weatherstripping is also significantly tighter. He could barley pull the dollar bill through. So either mine has just straight up better fit and finish vs. my 2014, or the weatherstripping got thicker (although he was still showing the same part numbers for it vs. the 2014) or a combination of the two. Either way, the truck has a lot less wind noise than before. If Nissan would have just used Acoustic Laminated Glass in the front windshield and doors, I feel it would rival the current GMC Sierra in measured Sones (or db), which has been mentioned in some truck tests (when the re-design came out in 2014) as being the quietest truck currently on the market. I test drove one, and indeed it's damn near "luxury car quiet". I have since had my frame coated, rustproofing wax in the door jabs, and undercoating on the underside panels. All I hear is wind noise over my Big Tow mirrors and my factory big shield. At some point when I do the audio, I will apply Hushmat and 1/4" foam in the cab. The it will really be quiet.

-Inside the front fenders, the acoustic felt lining was approx. 1/8" thicker vs. my 2014. Now whether that was because it was brand new and not "aged" or it is in fact just plain thicker, we don't know.

-The same materiel that the factory spray on bed-liner is was applied at the factory (in gray, not black like the bed) in the inner rear fender wells, along the under side of the bed near the frame rails down both sides to the cab and underneath about 60% of the entire cab. My 2014 had this only on the inner rear fender wells. Two things could have happened here:
1. A worker in Canton showed up the day they were doing my truck high as a kite and just let loose with the spray gun with that stuff or
2. My 2014 was not sprayed correctly.

These are the only three things that stood out vs. my 2014 PRO-4X as far as possible improvements made to make it quieter.

thats pretty cool! its like they initiated the new protocols for the XD on the out going 15's.

the snap ring should be fine though, what people usually bend/break first is the bottom of the shock where its welded to the bushing that bolt to the LCA. i ran my Bilsteins in chicago for 2 years and they still look fine, i'm sure with an abrasive pad they'd look new again.

Icon has their coating they offer don't they? i'm sure it'd be enough as long as you washed them once a week and waxed them occasionally.
