I am looking to get a set side steps for my Pro-4x, and figured I would start a thread about side steps to help future searchers. SO here it is. The good, bad and ugly. Please post up pictures of your side steps with recommendations/ words of advice on your set up. I am stuck between nfab, ironcross and smittybilt so any help would be great.

Thanks in advance.

I think Nfab look the best but a cheaper (and similar) option would be GoRhino steps. They are something like half the price of nfabs. IMO the ironcross are the worst looking.

I have the Go Rhino D2's, they are great steps, traded out my OEM ones, they make the truck look much taller than with the OEM ones.

My concern with the nfab, smittybilt and goRhino steps is the clearance. I almost bottomed by truck out this hunting season, and if I would have had either steps they would have bent or broke. Yes, I know I need a lift... haha.

These are what I have on my truck. The white one is my truck I just showed the other one to show the two versions. One being with the step plate and the other no plate.

still rockin the OEM chrome boards here, Usually removing them is the first thing I do when I get a pickup home from the lot, but stuck it out this time. They work well for the little kids to climb in and out. Pretty much dead-set on Rocky Road supersliders when the time comes.

Those Rocky Road supersliders are awesome! I was seriously considering the sliders until the calculated shipping was another 100 bucks! Gsh.

Has anyone looked into the possibility of having some steps made at a metal fab shop and then just get them Line-X'd?

I like the look of the N-Fab and Go Rhino D2 steps, but I feel like they don't NEED to be as large or hang as far under the truck as they do. I feel like the upper nerf bar could us a piece of steel that is much, much smaller/lower profile and still comfortably support the weight and provide enough of a mounting point to weld on the drop down steps which are what you actually utilize as the "step" portion. Has anyone looked into this? Or does anyone know of someone in the Houston, TX area that could possibly give this a go?

I figure the mounting points are straight forward enough, they should be able to fabricate a pretty badass set of steps for around $500 or so, which is around what these things run anyways..

Yeah they are about $450 from a fab shop for a good set. Not really saving any cash unless you have a homie hookup,

I picked up a set of nerf bars by MaxMate, which I found on Amazon last week. The reviews on them seemed decent enough. I wasnt looking to spend a ton of money on these. I think I paid $165 for the pair, which included mounting hardware.

Setup was a breeze (although the cold weather tested my patience a little bit). I've only had mine on for a couple of days, but they definitely do the job. Im not entirely sure how they hold up long term. However, I just couldnt see myself putting on OEM equipment for the price).

I have Rocky Road Super Sliders. Tuck up pretty clean, I can still use them as a step.

Shorter folks can't use them as a step as easily (my mom can't).

I went RR over Metal Works (those are some NICE sliders!) because I could bolt them on. Perhaps I'll have them properly welded on at some point, dunno.

Mind that bolting them on is a Huge PITA!

I've got the factory torpedo looking step bars but the gunmetal gray didn't really match with the silver rims so after some research on this forum, I ended up stripping the paint off of them and now I've got some brushed aluminum step bars...

Save myself some cash from buying some new ones. Thanks TT...
