Tahoe or Titan?

Well fellas, it's come to time where I'm deciding to trade again. I never really keep vehicles for long periods of time, but I was planning to keep the Titan for more than 6 months... As most of you know I've had some problems with the Titan that I've tried to just chug on through. A little update: The window regulator went out 2 weeks ago so I've gotta replace that, but the last straw was the radiator last week that cracked and took me 8 hours to replace (but I saved $400). Put the truck up on Mautofied.com (Go check it out) and have decided to trade for a Tahoe. Shortly after deciding this, I get the so-called "Death Wobble" and the truck is currently in the shop getting front end diagnosed. This truck has been nothing but trouble, unfortunately. I love the way it looks, sounds, runs, but when it rains it pours. So anyone that has had a Tahoe or has any experience with them, feel free to chime in to put my mind at ease in making the right decision!

The Tahoe is a 2006 Z71 with 122K miles on it w/ an 8 inch ProComp lift, 37 Nittos, and 20x14 Machined Fuel Hostage. Loaded inside with sunroof, heated leather seats, an in dash, and rear DVD player. He's got some more goodies, but these are just the things that really caught my attention at first. I will attach pictures so you guys can see what it looks like!

honestly if it were me (and my titan was paid off or at least close, not sure of your situation), id keep it. repairs suck no doubt, but are better than having another payment on an 8 year old 122k mile truck that you dont know the service history of like you do your titan. And you still may have to make repairs to the tahoe while making a payment.

Tahoe looks awesome and you don't see many lifted or done as well as the one your considering. I also like the fact that they have an AWD switch in addition to the 4WD which is great for the rainy days. My father in law has one and loves it although not as nice as yours and my wife wants a lifted one for her next ride. My sister in law also has a Surburban, with both rigs having the 5.3L with higher mileage and very little problems reported. Depending on the price, looks like a great decision.

Thanks for the feedback fellas. The Titan is paid off, as well as the Tahoe. It would just be a straight trade. I paid off my Hummer awhile back and have just traded since then, so I have no payments. But the Titan has just been non-stop trouble for me and I rather do repairs on a genuine GM vehicle since I've already had experience with one of their branches of vehicles.

An update: The shop said the front end checks out good, I had the tires rotated about 3 weeks ago and they said they never balanced them when they did. So maybe this could be the issue? I told them to rebalance and see if that solves the issue. Sure hope it does.. I just don't understand why it would be "death wobbling" now; 2 weeks after the rotation.

gotcha. well, good luck with whichever route you go. that tahoe looks nice as hell.

8 hours to change radiator? Took me les than 2 1/2 hours on the sidewalk Street. I would keep the Titan, I have never had any issues like that on my Titan.

Wish I could have done it that fast. Did you take the fan out? I didn't take the fan out and I could barely squeeze the radiator in and out. It was pure hell. You might not have had issues on yours, but wait till you live in the day of my Titan. Isn't fun having an unreliable truck..

I appreciate it! I have high hopes for it!

Never had a Tahoe but did have the 06 Yukon Denali. Bought it with 66K, sold it with 92K 18 months later. It had the 6.0L Engine in it that was a beast. Didn't have a single issue with it during that time. Purchased it for short term towing and thought I'd keep it long but it I didn't even though it came fully loaded with everything DVD Ent including.

Now that's what I like to hear! Something I can sway my old man with!

Son in law has an '04 Z71 Tahoe and has had to put quite a bit of money into it.
It is bone stock with 160K. He bought it in 2006 with 26K. No off roading. Pavement princess.
-Brake sensor issues
-Rear seals
-Transfer case
-Tranny
-Window motors
-Electric seats
-Fuel pump
-Couple of sensors
Shoot, not what I like to hear... but some of us just get a bad batch (like me with the Titan).

My experience: if you ask, you've already made the trade (in reality or in your mind), so why ask? :) Good luck with the Tahoe!
Very true, now just help me convince 'ole pops!

Little Update by the way: Shop said everything checked out good, well the damn thing kept shaking, even worse now, so I just said "F**k it". Got off about an hour ago, decided to put the skid plate back on, and I see that the LCA's bolt towards the rear of the truck is out of seat, it's not sitting flush and is sticking out! I look at the other side and see that bolt is flush and seated. Now I know why the truck is pulling right! Maybe this is what it is! Planning to take it to the shop tomorrow and have them seat it and tighten it down. Hopefully this will solve it!

It sounds to me, like you've already made up your mind. Maybe you're just looking for a little validation in your decision? This is a Titan forum, so naturally, most of us are going to lean towards keeping the Titan.

I personally think that the issues you're having with your truck, are pretty minute and typical of most vehicles and if that's the only reason you're wanting to ditch the truck, I would encourage you to re-think that decision. No vehicle is bulletproof and if you think you're going to step into a 100+ K mile GM and have no issues, there's more than a good chance you're wrong my friend. Especially one that's lifted. If that happens...then what? trade it off again?

Keep in mind, that this guy is also trying to ditch HIS vehicle. What are his reasons for doing so? Quite possibly the same as yours.

One thing I know for sure, having ridden in (and jokingly raced in my wife's 09' Accord) my dad's Yukon, is that you will be sorely disappointed with the performance in comparison to the Titan. No more butt pulling torque or bullying little import cars for sure. All in all it's your vehicle and you're decision bud, I've been in your shoes and would hate to see a fellow T owner make a decision he may regret. best of luck brutha...

Stop whining, your titan is an 05 and you got it used. if you expected to have zero problems than your crazy, rads blow and window regs wear out. Your gonna have the same random repairs with that Tahoe.

Go trade the devil you know for the devil you don't and have the same issues.

If it sounds like im a **** its cause the argument you've already decided on is stupid, and all I hear is my used truck needs repairs so im gonna get another used truck.

Stupid

And in advance I dont care what you think.

Thanks for the truth. I finally got the truck all put together (for now). Just little qwerks and finally figured out what was going on with the "death wobble". For now, I think I'm gonna keep the Titan. You are right, I love the power and the intimidation it exhibits when pulling up to a little ricer or even a V6 "muscle" car.

Me personally I would stay away from GM till they get their act together. I have always been a GM fan until the last few GM cars and trucks I have owned. Our 2010 Tahoe was a nice ride but I hated the 6 speed tranny as it shifted way too fast and lugged the 5.3L while driving in town. It did get great fuel mileage at 17 in town and 21-23 hwy. It was already rattling at 36k miles which is typical of GM. I cant tell you how many transmissions and fuel pumps I have put in the GM trucks over the last few years as they just do not last. I know all makes and models have issues but some more than others. My Titan is at 140k miles now and other than the manifolds and a leaking rear axle seal it has been solid and rattle free ride. I vote keep the Titan..:)

^^Good choice. I didn't want to mention it, since I've never owned a Tahoe, but - and I say this honestly - the only GM product I ever owned that wasn't a complete piece of **** was a 95 Buick LeSabre, and even it had a serious flaw (a plastic intake shroud with hot exhaust gas routed through it that would go bad and blow the head gasket). And I have owned a lot of GM products, because I have always liked the vehicles they came out with - S10, S15, Lumina, Cavalier, Venture, LeSabre is 6 right off the top of my head without thinking. Only the LeSabre was even close to low-trouble. All of the rest - and I bought every one of them new except the Venture and LeSabre - were nothing but trouble, and I was glad to get rid of them.

GM still makes awesome cars as a concept - I love driving the new Impalas when I rent them - but I seriously doubt I will ever buy another one. Just burned way too many times. None of the Nissans I have owned since new, including the Titan, gave me 1/10 the problems of the GM vehicles, and that's including the fact of exhaust manifold replacement on the titans and leaking axle seals. At least the Nissans never left me stranded with blown transmissions (2 of the vehicles), blown head gaskets (3 of them), destroyed differentials (1), garbage clutch after less than 30k miles (1 of them), etc.

Im keeping my titan truck forever.only issue currently is my brand new tires are wearing faster on outside. Been playing with pressures but probly getting prg or dk upper adj arms to get the camber neg instead of positive. Good luch with ur trade. My dad has a sierra with the same milage as my titan and our repair bills at 60k miles add up to about the same dollars amount .

I took the fan out when I could not fit the new one back in. Yes it was hard with it on the way.

To be honest I wouldn't get anything old that wasn't a well rated jap crap or diesel. If you like full size trucks and are buying used I"d get a tundra. The frontier is also a good choice. I know its the same company but they really have less problems than the titan.

If your buying new I'd consider an f150. They produce so many trucks that they can undercut the other manufacturers by alot and give you a better truck for the price. You can actually park nicely due to the much improved turning radius. You may even save money in the long run because you don't have to fix everything always because its new.

I'm pretty sure you could get a crew cab for cheap. My moms bf got one for like 26000ish
(crew cab basic v8). Thats without any options pretty much and no steps to get in. The one dealer by my place will knock 14000 thousand off msrp for an f150 for me. You just gotta haggle and tell them it won't work without a "deal" and be ready to walk out if needs be. Ford has their discounts but they are willing to give me another bunch off the discounted rate. A 50800 msrp and I can get it for 36800 which is pretty much equivalent with nissans discounts where I'm from. I'd also get a 1000 bucks in options and possibly another 1000 for being a costco member. These are canadian prices so I imagine another 15-20% less in the states.

I'm going to be hard pressed not to trade in my titan in the next bit and wait for very much needed update with the cummins 5.0.
