So today I think I'm replacing the thermostat. I was merged onto a 55mph road from the shopping center, floored it..hit 6000rpm before I switched to 2nd gear, did the same thing going into 3rd..wow my temp guaged spiked to just under the limp mode line lol

And when I got home, it started to overheat just as I put the truck in park. overflow tank is full.. So figured might as well change thermostat being I just did a coolant flush.

QUESTION: When replacing the thermostat (buying the one from Nissan dealership, heard STAT is bad..) when I remove the thermostat cover, should I expect a lot of coolant to pour out? Or when I remove the screws, and remove the cover, will I just get the coolant from the upper radiator hose? I don't want to make a mess...

I'll probably also replace my sep. belt too. My volt meeter will somtimes go from between 1/2 and 3/4 mark to 1/2 mark, or even between 1/4 and 1/2 marks... I assume loose belt? Belt seems tight but has cracks..so it's old. I don't think I've ever changed it in 70k miles....

Do you think running the engine this hard, that the temp would remain normal??

I'm just surprised no one has chimed in with a real answer. I've replaced thermostats on some cars where all of the engine coolant comes pouring out..and some where not a drop. I'm juts looking to see what I should look for.

Either way I can't wait to get my Ram. Each week is a new problem with this damn thing.
