I am thinking of buying a titan and have a couple of questions.
1. what year did they change the rear axle I have read alot about failures.
2. are there certain years to stay away from?
3. I want an LE are there any problems specific to this model.

thanks in advance

1) On the '08 models.
2) The early years...'04, '05.
3) No.

The earlier models with a TruTrac LSD added have stayed together quite well. I have an '04 LE CC 4x4 Big Tow. The front diff. on the 4WD's have had some issues as well but was redisgned with some slightly beefier parts on the '08's and up. The LE model is definately the cream of the crop for interior extras. Thats honestly all the seperates the LE from the other models with exception of some minor exterior trim. I would advise going with an '08 or newer even if you found one with a TruTrac installed on an earlier model. Just my opinion as a 6 yr Titan owner. Love my Titan the same today as day one.:D

Many owners of the pre-'08 models never have a problem. They switched in about mid-'05 to a finned aluminum diff cover and went to synthetic gear oil. That helped a lot. I'm an '06 and tow heavy from time to time and have had no problems as of yet. In the pre-'08 models, you can always go to a True Trac LSD rear and never worry about it again, in addition to getting the limited slip benefits.

i have an early 07 2wd and have not had a single issue from the truck. i have cause some issues, but they were mine and coors lights fault! lol. no matter what truck you get, do the axle vent mod right away. it will defenitly save your axle seals. you can do a search on here for it. cheap and great insurance. also late 07's and up have beefier shackles but you can get those pretty cheap from prg or total chaos if you buy a pre 08.

Shoot if you got that kind of cash you should be fine! I got my 08 with 17k miles with 6 inch pro comp lift, KMC wheels, and ATs for 19.5k, unfortunatly I've put a little more mod money into her now.

the true trac is an aftermarket addon so no stock titan will have it. To tell you the truth the easiest way would be to take a test drive and floor it from stop and look for 1 wheel peel marks

My 05 has had very little issues and I love it. Yes I went through brakes alot for the first 27k, had an axle seal leak and battery replaced but its been a good truck and will by my truck for many more years.

If leather is the issue with you, there's an easy fix. I have an 08.5 SE which had cloth interior. I just had the interior done (seats, arm rests, head rests, door panels) in two-tone leather at a cost of $1025 out the door. I feel like I'm driving a brand new truck.

That was kind of my point. I would gladly give up factory leather for Katzkins to have an 08+ any day of the week. When I originally bought my 08, I test drove some 07 leftovers first. Even though the rebates were better on the leftovers, they weren't getting my out of the 08 after test driving it. Beefed up axle and larger brakes aside, they really freshened up the interior overall.

I have an 06. It has been completely reliable. I have not had brake, rear end, radiator, or any of the other problems some have had. I love my truck. Buy a Titan and you will love yours as well.

Hey Raptor, I have an 05 that just hit 100,000miles. I joined here
in 2005, and just recently reported back 5 years later.

My truck is an LE with most of the goodies. Around 75 or 80,000 the rear differential went out. Fortunately I had the extended, and they replaced
it for the $50.00 deductible. Other than that, this truck has been totally bullet proof. I take it off road on dirt on occasion, and I use to ride the beach for months searching for big striped bass. Even though I take care of it I drive it hard, and it never let me down.

I put a Retrax slider top on the back, and had that for 5 years, and it
has been great. Just today I brought it to the dealer to get the 90,000
mile service done. I never did it. I also changed the rear brakes for the
first time. Really!!! 100,000 miles, and just changed the rears. I only changed the fronts once so far also. They told me that the spark plugs were good, and that I don't have to change them yet. This truck is amazing.
The bigger services can be pricey, but nothing ever breaks. I have a buddy of mine who just purchased a new dodge pickup, and after driving his I realized how much better my truck is even with all the mileage. Mine is
still more comfortable, and it drives better.

Buy this truck, and don't worry. If you buy it from a dealer, try to get
warranty, and let them know your concerns about the axle. I find my dealer
very accomodating to me. I'm keeping this truck for at least another 50,000
miles without payments. AAAAAHHHHHHHH.

I paid 18,500 for my truck brand new, but it was when gas was 5$ a gallon

Because they addressed a bunch of issues with the 08+ trucks including a beefier axle, bigger brakes and a nicer interior.
