Using the Titan to move. Uhaul says this..

Well it looks like I may be moving to Florida by the end of this month. I'll know more tomorrow. However incase I do, the moving company wants 6 grand to move everything. The cheaper route is to just get a trailer, and go at it!

Uhaul says I need this:
Class 3 hitch, $139.95
Max weight, 6,000lbs
Max Distribution weight, 10,000lbs
Round tube design

The trailer I'm getting is a 6'x12' in size. Now full of furniture, how much weight do you think I could put in the bed of the Titan? Or do you think that would just weigh it down too much?

6 grand!?!? wow, give me four and i'll do it for you :)

The weight you can put in your truck will depend on how you load the trailer. Don't put your heaviest stuff in the front of the trailer. Try and put your heavy loads over the axle of the trailer or right in front of the axle. Try to distribute the weight in the trailer as to not put too much tongue weight so your truck will sit level. You should be able to put 500-800 pounds in the truck if you load the trailer correctly.

We used PODs for a local move and it was awesome! Quick and easy worth the $.

I've rented those larger Uhaul trailers a few times. You should be able to load that trailer to the gills and fill your bed pretty full and be just fine. If I had the choice of driving that far in my Titan or some junky Uhaul truck I'd take my Titan.

Another option is to palletize your stuff and have someone like ABS deliver it. Usually about $150 a pallet.

You don't have a hitch already?....Do people also buy trucks with out the bed....? :)

You truck has a payload of about 1400 lbs, that's fuel, you and whatever's in the bed(including the weight of trailer tongue).....

I don't think you should have too much problems, I'd load the heavier items in the trailer when possible.

I would tow in 4th and don't worry if hitting hills the truck grabs 3rd and tachs out 3500-3800 rpm....The Titan pulls hard like that and is built to take it.
You're going to miss not having the Tow Package mirrors....

Like said before, get a bigger UHaul truck and a car trailer that gets all the wheels off the ground...tow the Titan.

I agree!! Why would you want to put the mileage on your truck. Let alone tow all that across the country. Spend a little more and tow the titan down. Better off in the long run.

I agree with above about renting the U-Haul truck and a tow dolly to pull your truck behind it. If you want a hitch, the OEM Nissan one is the best bang for the buck, it's very easy to install and connect the wiring. CourtesyParts usually has a decent price on them.

We may get a big uhaul truck. However we have 3 trucks we need to get down there also. We don't have THAT much stuff. It'd be cheaper to just rent a 6'12' trailer and tow that while the Bronco tows the Honda behind it. I'm looking into PODs right now..

..but I want to tow something LOL

I don't know where you're moving from, but if you decide to rent a truck I'd take a serious look at Penske rather than Uhaul. When we moved from WA to CA Uhaul wanted over a grand for the rental; Penske was only like $300 bucks. Plus all their trucks are brand new and a lot nicer to drive than Uhaul's clunkers...just a thought.

Heres the results:
Penske Truck Rental is $890 from Denver to Miami
Tow trailer is $210 (will tow buddies Honda SUV)
No trailer offerd by Uhaul to tow my Bronco behind the Titan. SO how do I get my Bronco to FL?

Uhaul rental is $1,192
Trailer is $293 for Honda SUV
Same situation, no way to tow Bronco behind Titan

Titan with 6'x12' enclosed trailer, $331
Bronco with trailer $191

..yeah cheapest way is to just tow lol

PODS wants me to call them to get a quote..so i'll call them in a minute

cheap out now and pay later.

I would get a big box truck for the house. Tow the bronco behind the truck and tow the lighter Honda behind the Titan or Titan behind truck and Honda behind Bronco. The other option is use a train (Amtrack) to get the Bronco and Titan down south. You can always Drive one truck down, fly back and drive the other truck down. It's not like your gonna be late for work.

BTW Uhual sucks. If you have go with Uhaul demand a truck no older than 2 years old. Uhual is known for keeping junk on the road.

Thats a lot of mile on the bronco to be towing a car across the country with. It might be just fine but I wouldn't want to do it. Are those miles on the original motor?

The Bronco is fine. I drove it last year from Spokane Washington to Denver,CO with a 6'x12' uhaul trailer full of antique furniture. I'd say the trailer plus completly packed weighed an easy 3.5k lbs.
Pulled the trailer with no problem what so ever. Was running non stop and even idle for 8 hours while I slept on the side of the road while it was about 10 degrees outside! I'd trust the Bronco before the Titan..

Last July we moved from Idaho to Virginia. I shopped around, narrowed it to Budget and Penske, then called both companies. Budget reduced their original quote (by over 20%!) when I kept talking about 'Penske this' and 'Penske that.'
We had a lot of crap, so we needed a 24 footer. I drove the truck solo, towed the wife's car (while she and the baby flew out), and I kept the Titan in storage until I could fly back & get 'er a few months later. That was the Titan's 2nd time across the country~MUCH more fun than driving the huge Budget truck towing a car!

So anyways, have you looked into Budget? We had a pretty good experience with them and the price was good.

If I could do it over tho, I would've just had a big yard sale and sold as much of our stuff as possible, then just tow a small trailer with the Titan. I think I spent like $1,500 paying $4.50/gallon in diesel, getting 8 mpg, not to mention the cost of the truck.

I called everyone. $1700 total with gas and trailers to move everything. Penske was 2nd in place at $2,600 total to move with them. And they were the cheapest. Then budget, then uhaul

It is! I towed a 6x12' trailer full of antique furniture and odds and end from Spokane to Denver. Every air pocket was shoved with something. Only thing is going up steep grades, it would only do 35-40mph while I had to floor it. Sucked.

Yeah PODs wanted a little over 5 grand I believe to move everything form Here to Miami. I'd rather pay the 6 grand and have packers, movers, transporters, unloaders do all the work for me lol

The U-Haul hitch will be fine also, those guys have been at it a long time. I have tow'ed the 6 x12 tandem axle trailer 175 miles loaded with furniture and the bed loaded. Unless you have some really heavy furinture it will be not match for your truck. Your truck will tow it fine, I pulled it in OD. If you can get your furniture in there it will be much cheaper.
I have some pretty heavy antique furniture, however a lot of stuff will be put in storage here. Only taking things I need.

Dude just rent a trailer and tow the crap, the titan will handle it. There is no way a 26 foot truck will fit a hole house in it. I had a 26 foot truck and 2 of the biggest trailers u-haul has, and still had a van full of stuff. There is no trailer u-haul has that is to big for the titan.
I know the titan can handle towing the trailer..hell if my Bronco can, I know the Titan can. I just wanted to know about having a heavy load in the bed of the Titan. That's a lot of strain on the back end of the truck for 2k miles.
