Symptom: I will be in drive, cruising along, and come to a stop light. I will come to a complete stop then apply the gas quickly to get going again. The engine revs up then clunks into gear a second or two later. Feels really bad. Now that I am sensitive to it, I don't floor it right away, I wait for it to reengage (since I stay in drive, it seems like it would stay engaged and not be able to 'rev freely' before the clunk-n-go)
Additional info: Seems to mostly occur when I first start driving, i.e. perhaps the first couple times I come to a complete stop then start to go again. I drive longer, it seems to go away or be less noticeable. On top of that, I think it is more noticeable when cold. Also, I put on a PML deep transmission pan a couple months ago and it seemed to start after that. Plenty of the correct fluid.
My diagnosis: This is happening in the transmission, no axle wrap or other drivetrain issue. I think the pan addition is causing it, although that doesn't make much sense to me. Perhaps it happens more when first driving because the fluid is cold and it's taking longer to heat up, I don't know. It was a simple install, not much to go wrong except not adding enough coolant.
Your diagnosis? Feel free to tell me my diagnosis is stupid.
