What's going on with my Titan? Diagnosis requested

Symptom: I will be in drive, cruising along, and come to a stop light. I will come to a complete stop then apply the gas quickly to get going again. The engine revs up then clunks into gear a second or two later. Feels really bad. Now that I am sensitive to it, I don't floor it right away, I wait for it to reengage (since I stay in drive, it seems like it would stay engaged and not be able to 'rev freely' before the clunk-n-go)

Additional info: Seems to mostly occur when I first start driving, i.e. perhaps the first couple times I come to a complete stop then start to go again. I drive longer, it seems to go away or be less noticeable. On top of that, I think it is more noticeable when cold. Also, I put on a PML deep transmission pan a couple months ago and it seemed to start after that. Plenty of the correct fluid.

My diagnosis: This is happening in the transmission, no axle wrap or other drivetrain issue. I think the pan addition is causing it, although that doesn't make much sense to me. Perhaps it happens more when first driving because the fluid is cold and it's taking longer to heat up, I don't know. It was a simple install, not much to go wrong except not adding enough coolant.

Your diagnosis? Feel free to tell me my diagnosis is stupid.

My stupid idea is that you do not have enough trans fluid in it.

When you check your transmission level, do you drive around first? Run in neutral only? It should be in the middle of the checkered/stamped area, right?

Yep.
Should be in the middle.
Some dipsticks have a warm/cold mark.
I don't know if the Titan has that or not.

maybe your tranny is about to go. my old 05 wrangler did that, i was driving down the road doing 35 and all of a sudden it felt like someone kicked it into neutral but i was still in drive. pulled over waited 10 mins finally got it to move went to the shop and the tranny was about to go out. hope this isnt your problem. i traded in the jeep for the T JUST in time lol

My stupid question is:
When swapping to a 'larger' (deeper?) pan, does that also require an extended pick-up tube?

As for the symptoms - I would def say that the trans is causing it - be it from lack of adequate fluid, or ....internal.

Thanks for the replies. Off to the dealership for some matic j at lunch.

On rechecking it, it did seem to have low fluid level so hopefully that is causing the symptom.

Adding fluid made it go away.

Thanks for the replies

This deserves a wooohoooo shout out.
Glad it wasn't something serious.
