I thought the purpose of hood deflectors was to keep bugs off the windshield.

In South Alabama we have some creatures called "Love Bugs". This past September was the worst season of love bugs in my loooong memory.

As far as I could tell even those trucks equipped with deflectors windshield's were absolutely covered with love bugs. My conclusion is that deflectors are just an appearance item.

Good GOD I hate lovebugs! I visited my friend in College Station, TX late last summer and it was like driving through a solid wall of them! CRAZY!

I took my factory deflector OFF. Looks better, and I get no more bugs on my windshield than when I DID have it (it doesn't work very well... apparently).

 

In places where they sand the roads in the winter, it protects the front of the hood from getting the pain sand blasted off. Also, it helps to keep people from denting the hood by putting their hand on top of the hood and slamming it.

I can close my hood by dropping it from about 6" from the latch...

Man I remember when the S2000 came out and there was a HUGE warning for closing the hood... all aluminum... it was specifically stated to drop the hood from a low height (don't remember quite how high).

Seems that our hoods close without ANY effort what-so-ever (I love that!).

It's meant to keep the leading edge of the hood, as well as the hood, from being damaged from whatever may be thrown at it. Works excellent. It also adds to the looks IMHO. I have the white so the black contrast matches other areas of the truck nicely. You can also get one in chrome if you prefer.

 

I put mine on to stop stone chips. It does deflect some of the incoming "other foreign objects" but surely not all.

i bought mine because i like the look of it on the front. i think it flows very well. yeah it dont give much protection from things hitting the windshield but i think it looks good anyways.

 

It saves my titan from rock chips. I was getting too many too easily on the front there and my stainless bug shield has stopped them.

 

I agree 100% w/ the comments here. Bugs had very little (0%) to do w/ the decision to get the deflector. My regret - not getting it sooner (several paint chips on front flat part of hood).

 

Obviously you folks have never had to contend with the Titans inherant instability at takeoff or you would know what the shield is for. It also helps with bird strike at altitude. Don't you guys know about the big red button? Don't push it without at least 600 ft of runway though.

well the stuff i have is made my armor coat and it is just a really thick clear film (like window tint) and it has glue on 1 side and you just clean the surfice and then spray water on there then stick. but it is no as easy as it sounds.
i used to work for a window tint shop and im still good friends with the owner. just call arround i think most tinting shops or even custom truck shops might do it.
