I know there are a lot of people out there running this set up on the stock rims. I just wanted to take a poll and see how many people were able to swing this set up with a 2.5"/1" mini lift or less, and if they had to do trimming or not. I put the mini lift on yesterday and am trying to determine if I should go with a 295/70/17 which I'm sure will fit without rubbing or if I should go to the 315/70/17 which seems like it could go either way. Any help is appreciated. Once I get everything finished up I will post some pictures.

you also might look into the nitto terra grappler in a 305-70-17 which is just at 34" tall norcal has them on aftermarket wheels and had to trim a little bit.
The 34" Nitto's would probably fit on stock OR and XE rims with a leveling kit, but might still have to take off the mud guards or cut, melt, or grind them where the corner of the tire rubs, if they do. Their radius should be 1/4" less than the 315/70 and they should stick out about 1/4" less too.

Here's a link to an old poll I started on rubbing and the LT315/70R17 BFG A/T KO. [It was back in '07 so only old model Titans are covered].
A few people responded. Maybe I gave too many choices, Lol

The reason I am deciding between the 295/70/17 and 315/70/17 is because I can get a good buy on the Hankook Dynapro ATM's locally and those are the only two sizes they offer.

I am also considering a rim/tire package I found on ebay. It is the Moto Metal 951 in a 17x9 with 4.5" backspacing and the 305/70/17 Nitto Terra Grappler. What do you guys think of that combination as far as rubbing is concerned?

I have already removed the mudflaps and my truck is an 05 4x4.

You will need to do the pinch weld mod with them for certain. I temporarily had a 2.5" PRG level kit on top of Bilstein HD's when I got my rims and tires, and my rims have the same 4.5" backspacing, but are 17x8" instead of the wider MM951's 17x9" rims.

Sticking out an inch more they are going to rub a lot, because when turning the steering wheel, it will eventually make the part that sticks out more when the wheel is straight, point into the pinch weld near full steering lock.

Here's a pic looking down from the top of the tire at the ground, (gray), and the blue lines are where the pinch weld was, and the black is behind where the mud guard was.

It goes really quick though with a Sawzall. I touched up the edges with automotive spray paint. Since the air intake is in the wheel well, get the fender liner, (on at least the driver side), back on quick, because my air filter got wet in the rain, and must have got a drop on the MAF, because it hiccuped and cut out for a moment when I was passing a truck. Maybe it was something else but I put the old filter, (that I kept for off roading), back in and it has been fine since.

Well I went with the 315/70/17 Hankook Dynapro ATm's. No rubbing, at least not on the street. When the wheel is at full lock it is very close but not quite rubbing. I would imagine given the right circumstances offroad or possibly on the road it may rub a little bit. The tires look great though! I will post up some pictures when I get some. Now I just need to get it aligned.
