That guy is from az?!?!? I live in az, that's sketchy as all hell!

Hey, atleast hes using a weight distribution hitch

In all honesty, i think my truck is better equipped to tow that thing, and i STILL wouldn't dare try to!

OMG - that doesnt look safe at all.. LMAO @ E-rated tires and air bag comments..hahahaha

And according to the Trailer Life Towing Guide, that vintage Tahoe has a max rating of 6,100-8,800 depending on equipment.
That's a generous website as well. I use trail Manor and they have a max of 7700 in 2005(a guess), and much less than that for model year 2003. You have to be equipped with the proper engine and gears to max out in a chevy during those years. My "guess" is that this jackwagon has lower than 3.73 gears and probably even has the 4.8 liter.....

Was the tow package on the Tahoe that bad? My wife's 2004 Ford Expedition 2wd without the "Class IV" tow package is rated to tow almost 9k as long as you use a WD hitch and have trailer brake controller added. Even included the harness plug-in in the glovebox (it's still sitting in the bottom, gathering dust for the past 130k mi...). She's got the 5.4l, though. If she had the 4.6, it's a 5k max. Regardless, that guy looks to have hitch adjustment issues. Probably has no idea how to adjust the stupid thing.

I think part of the problem is the information is different based on just about every site. Folks that I know that tow ALOT use trail manor for their guide. According to them, your wife's expedition is rated for 6000lbs as long as it has 3.73 gears. if it has 3.73's AND the towing package, it's 9000lbs. I honestly have no idea what's right and what's wrong. I just listen to folks that have been doing it longer than I am old, and I'm 42. Here's the link to trail Manor. You can just substitute the year in the end of the address for other data. FWIW, i wouldn't think a 5.4 could move 9000lbs. :)

That's funny.

But an Expy is basically an F1 with coil rear and some added body weight, right? I'm sure you COULD, but would you really WANT to?

As with ANY (maximum) tow rating...

I stand by my initial statement: Just because you "can" doesn't mean you should. I guess all I'm saying is make sure you use the right tool for the job. :)

I've towed an antique tractor on a flatbed tandem axle, and the whole thing probably went about 6500k. Towed fine, and no issues starting or stopping, with the Expy. I wouldn't want to run cross country like that, but to get the tractor around locally, I don't have a problem. If we went to a TT, I'd look for something that would be 8k topped out, give or take 250lbs.

Interesting thing about the tow package versus the non-tow package, the only real difference between the two trucks (I know, as my brother worked for Ford and we checked it thoroughly) was the size of the trans cooler and the factory install of the 7-pin plug. The hitch under mine is labeled as Class IV, and is identical to the Class IV receiver found on the "heavy duty tow package" models to which we compared it. But that's off topic a bit. No worries - just interjecting a little disbelief that the Tahoe gave up nearly 1k in tow weight in that year model to the Expy.

I travel the thruway (major interstate in NY) everyday and see all kinds of $hit like this, its rediculous... Saw an explorer with what looked like used to be a 24' enclosed car hauler the other day rolled in the median :ugh: I've lost count on the amount of harley's tied down with 2 harbor freight orange ratchet straps lol. The Troopers need to shift some focus off big rigs and start weighing some of these light duty vehicles.
