I'm trying to figure out how to add a light to illuminate the cup holders on my 2006 Titan. They are located below the radio in a fold out du-dad almost on the floor. It's like a black hole in the morning. I found the circuit I wanted to use. It's for the license plate lights and its under the hood. None of the fuses in the cab are suitable because they don't come on with the lights. I CANNOT find a way through the firewall without drilling a new hole, which I don't want to do. I tried pushing a nylon push rod from my R/C flying days through existing holes in the firewall and even after taking out the glove box I still can't find the end of my pushrod. I thought about tapping off an existing dash light but I don't know how to get access to the dash lights. This is important...
We're talking coffee at 6:00A.M!!!

There is another hole in the firewall, but it is on the driver side. Where the hood release cable worms through yhr firewall. You would have to run more wire, but at least you wouldn't have to drill a new hole.

I tried that one as well...no luck. I don't know where the nylon rod went, but it's bright yellow and I couldn't find it

You don't need to go to the engine bay. Plenty of illumination wire inside the cab.
Like Blue stated above, radio wire is in the vicinity.
You're looking for a red with blue stripe wire. If you can find it at the radio, there's one behind every switch that light up.
Also at the dimmer switch.

Re: Re: Want to add interior light

I would like to do that. How do I get the dash panel off so I can access the wiring? I tried briefly to remove them but didn't want to force anything. Do they just snap out or are they screwed in?
Radio faceplate just snap in place. Start at one edge, to our bottom and pull It out

The Good News...
I now have a "coffee light"!

The Bad News...
I now have the drivers side air bag light flashing.
No clue why. I tried disconnecting the battery for 15 min like I did when the passenger side air bag light stayed on but that didn't work... any ideas???

Did you turn the key of the truck when you had the air bag light disconnected? (maybe to check to see if your light turned on?). Usually that causes the air bag light to illuminate

Here is the fix:

Pictures, Agreed...After my first run I think the light is just a bit to bright. I hope to fine tune it this weekend (if I have time) and I'll post pictures then. I'll go into detail on how i did it if someone else might want to give it a try.

Again, thanks for helping!

Finally got time to get some photos posted!

Here's what I did.

First off, when I do these projects I use stuff I already have laying around. (I'm Cheap) All that was required was a 2 1/2" of 1/2" pvc, a light I took out of an old Autometer gauge I had laying around and 2 rubber grommets.

I removed the dash plate from the bottom up just like baseballfanz said to do. Next, I got my tester and found the wire that lit the light on the tow mode switch directly above the coffee holder. My wire was blue with a red stripe and silver dashes. I just tapped into it and ran a ground to a screw holding radio and wal-ah I had a light.

Next I drilled a hole for the 1/2" pvc where it can't be seen where the dash kicks back. Then I Dremel'ed out the hole so the pvc fit. I took a rubber grommet and stuck it in the pvc and put the light into the grommet...the grommet just happen to fit the pvc's ID and the lights OD!!! :)

My first test, I thought the light was to bright...sort of distracting, so I added another grommet below the light in the pvc and now its PERFECT!

BTW... all the white junk in the photos is from Dremel-ing out the hole.
