Hey RB... you swapped from the 2.94’s to 3.36 (from 3.73 to 4.10 equivalents on a 4 speed). From a street truck perspective do you think we could improve that performance any better with custom gears like a 3.55 ring and pinion? I imagine that going any lower than 3.55’s would be over kill for a "street" ride with near stock height tires…gas mileage would go down the tube and seems like we would be struggling at the end of the ¼ mile but would get up quick. Does that make sense? I read that Motors with a bunch of torque benift can from 3.73's where a high HP motor would be better off with 4.10's. You added the trutrac with your swap but, how much quicker do you honestly think the 3.36 are vs. 2.94? Does she seem to get to 60 quicker and not pull as hard after 80mph since the swap? There has to be a trade off. I noticed some sub 15 sec runs without 3.36. Just wondering how much it really helped overall performance and if it would be worth the trouble to most with the gas mileage trade off. I understand that you spent a lot of time and reserch on this, but an unbiased opinion would be killer man!
I special ordered in 98' a 5.2 Dakota std tranny back in the day with 4.10's rear...Off the line she was great but after 50 or 60 mph acceleration kinda felt sub par for a mid 15 sec truck. I later ended up putting in 3.92's and was much happier. She seemed to pull a pretty good the whole time with 3.92's vs pulling hard only at lower speeds with 4.10's. I just belive there is a such thing as to much gear thats why I was asking.
Thanks Dude,
