Changing diff. gear ratio

According to my VIN (there is absolutely no tags or markings as to what gear ratio I have on the diff.) I have a 2.93 rear end BUT according to a number of fellows on Titan Talk, based on what options I have for trailer pulling, I have the 3.36. That's not to say that the dealer who told me what I had is all together correct. Is it a difficult and costly job to change from the 2.93 to the 3.36 gear set? I presently have P series tires, 265/70R-18, am considering going to LT 275/65R-18. Will this cause any problems.
Thanks for the help, you all have always been very helpful.

My Nissan is an 09 KC. I have the extendable outside mirrors, trans temp gauge in the speedometer gauge, at 70mph the tach reads 2000rpm, have a tow mode button in the center of the dash down near the floor, also have the electric shift toggle switch to manually downshift on the shift lever.

You wouldn't need to regear for that size of tire.

Not to hi-jack this thread but I know for sure my 2014 has the 2.94 gears and I would need to upgrade to the 3.36 for the TT. Does anyone know what else would need to happen other than swapping the ring & pinion? Would the ecm need to be reflashed?

Any help would be appreciated.

You would also have to change your front transfer case too, or you can kiss going anywhere in 4wd, ECM would have to be reflashed or your cruise control will not work among other things.

Yes, front diff ring and pinion will have to be swapped. Has to match the rear ornyoull get all sorts of binding unless you only engage in very slippery stuff and disengage before you get back to firm ground.

Put the truck up on a lift. Put the truck in neutral. Put the tire valve of one of the rear tires in the six o clock position. Make a small mark on the rear drive shaft in the three or nine o clock position which ever as long as it is in the middle facing you.

Turn the wheel one complete revolution.

If it's a 3.36:1, the drive shaft will go around approx. 3 1/3 times to the wheel going around once.

If it was the 2:93, the drive shaft will go around less then three times.

Yeah, I meant front diff, was typing quickly at work and wasn't thinking/reading what I was typing.

If you want to give me the VIN I decode it with the FAST parts catalog and all options.

Both diff's need the gears to match, would need a different speed sensor to get correct MPH readings. Computer should be reflashed for proper shift points, since it has big mirrors and tow switch it should have towing gears. Why do you think it doesn't or how did you determine it has the 2:93 ratio?

I crawled under the truck and looked atthe data tag that was attached to the diff housing, and it's NOT the 3.36. I've got the tow switch, but the small mirrors.

Why the speed sensor change? I understand the ecm reflash to reflect the proper gear ratio, shift points, and for adjusting the air fuel mixture.

I found out that you must have the trans gauge and extended mirrors for 3.36
I went to several off road stores which only has parts for Jeep, Ram, Toyota, Chevy, and Ford but NO TITAN.
I found a place called Unitrax in Anaheim Ca
they hooked me up and I am able to tow my 5th wheel toyhauler and I believe the price was fair considering no one else would consider the gear swap.
LT285/65/18 No problem towing fully load now

Reviving an old thread!
I have a 2014 CC 4x4. Has Tow Mode and Trans Temp. I had to add tow mirrors. I also added Firestone Air Bags. I pulled up my VIN and found I have only 2.94 gears.

Whats my Tow Cap? 7200 or 9300?

If its 7200, will changing to a 3.36 increase tow cap to 9300? Seems to me thats the only difference in Big Tow vs Non Big tow, on mine at least.

comments, suggestions and costs would be appreciated!

2.94 = 7300, 3.36=9300

Easier than plugging the vin into a decoder - which may not give you the gear ratio anyway - is to just check your engine RPM at 70MPH. If you're turning ~1750RPM, you have 2.94 gears. If you're turning ~2000RPM, you have 3.36 gears.
