Coilovers: Radflo, Icon, or Sway-A-Way?

I'm looking to take the plunge...

Radflo, Icon, and Sway-A-Way all seem to be relatively similar in price. (King not included because it is costly)

Which behaves better on road, and soaks up the small potholes and bumps?

Which is the beast when you're off-road?

What are some pros and cons of each?

I know it's like asking which do you like Ford, Chevy or Dodge (Nissan [emoji57]) but I figured some of y'all have ran them long enough to give a good hearty opinion.

The search option gives TONS of info but it doesn't seemed to be condensed into a definite best of these 3.

So out of these 3 who takes the cake?

Its going to come down to who has the best valving out of the box. because if you open them up to valve them yourself, they can all ride identical.

Icon: their bread and butter is OEM replacement parts. So they spend a lot of time getting the shocks to ride nice for daily drivers. ICON is everywhere, support and service won't be an issue.
Radflo: They are designed by and for PRG. That says a lot. But i'm sure you've uncovered the clunk issues. The ext. resi ones don't ever seem to have that issue though. The owner personally takes care of issues. ALSO the radflo bracket lifted shock is a longer shock body and shock shaft, the ICONS, from what it looks like, are an OEM length shock with a 6" longer eyelet.
SAW: good luck. AFE is still behind on producing their stuff for the older SAWS products. IDK if greg has them in stock. I have no clue. Downsouth Motorsports won't even touch SAW products lol. Kartek has a huge warehouse, probably has SAW parts stocked up.

Thanks for the info, that helped a lot. I was originally leaning toward the ICON shocks but now that you mentioned the travel length I may research more. I also had heard about the clunk but wasn't sure if that problem had been addressed yet. Just looking to get rid of the spacer and have a low maintenance smooth ride.

Just to add to the radflo an their clunk. Greg fixed it for myself, as they clunked from new. He said it was a bad bearing an replaced them, also a large air bubble inside the shock.
Only part that cost me money was sending them back to him.
I really like the ride of the Radflo an they are amazing off-road so far.
I was supposed to get SAWS but at the time AFE Power had just bought them out two months prior, so it's been a whole year since being bought out and they still can't manage to make more? Donno

So just to add to this the clunk came back just over a month after installing them again. So far Greg won't return any calls or emails. Sucks I don't really know what to do because I can't deal with this clunk it's brutal.
Also the same side will bottom out over bumps/potholes the other side doesn't even blink at. Just seems like something is fu(ked with shock itself, I don't know?

Think of where Titan parts are at on their priority list tho lol. Very bottom.

I would go radflo with the external res as Honda mentioned, I've never heard of them having the issue an Greg said the same thing to me.
Also like he said the icons don't have the same travel the radflos have, mine are the bracket lifted extended travel.

I had the Radflo's, Fox 2.0, Blistein 5100 and now Kings.

To me, the Radflo's rode the best. I had the clunk though. Had I not spent the money that I did, I would've kept them. But I decided to go to the Foxes. To be honest they and the Bilstein 5100's felt about the same. The Kings ride really nice. I can't say they ride better than the Radflo's, but there is no noise. That being said they are remotes front and rear. I've heard nothing but good about the Icons, just don't have any experience with them.

I personally went with ICONs on all 4 corners from OWP, though I don't have them installed yet.

Their reviews are pretty much impeccable, and they'll allow me to ditch all of my blocks and spacers so I can't really ask for much more. It was between Kings and ICON for me, and I just decided that I couldn't justify the extra cost of the Kings for performance that I would probably never need. Oh, and they're that (personal opinion...) hideous bright blue, lol. The ICON looks much more in line with the black and white theme of my truck.

All in all:

-You can't go wrong with King or ICON
-Radflo has had some issues in the past, but are still great overall
-SAW are damn near impossible to get your hands on nowadays, but when dialed in perfectly I've been told they're among the best

What do the icon rears look like? I was considering upgrading all four corners as well

ICON has the best branding IMO. So the icon rear piggy backs are the best looking. GET THEM. lol

Contact mike or Chas at TAP...Link is in my sig ;)

Agnostic has a sweet setup for sure. None of us need resis. But it looks hella dope brah

Icon is a great brand, lots of people run them and have nothing but great things to say about how plush the ride is front and rear, great for stock or lifted trucks, u can't go wrong, the rear ressie are an amazing addition to a truck, also can have them done in stock or for lifted form, not to mention OWP was the first company to get icon to start making 2.0 rear ressie shocks for the Titan, more cost effective than most brands and I get great deals with icon for all suspension needs, comes down to what u want to spend and what u plan to do with the truck, offroad or pavement princess, either way u will enjoy the ride icons give u. for the front and rear I can hook u up

#27 ·
Yeah i wish i'd gone icon....but NOOOO i HAD to try something new lol. All about that extra .5" of travel lol

#28 ·
Who was that on here recently that had their icons sent back for external res radflos?

#29 ·
How much are these icon setups anyway lol

From what I've seen they are around the same price as a set of external res radflos or saws. Cheapest I've seen a set of fronts by icon was 1350 for the bracket lifted icons.

#32 · (Edited)
I only paid 800 for my extended travel bracket lifted radflos but they are the internal res. same shocks I just looked up on TAP's website said they are 1100 an the icons are like 1500 for the internal res bracket lift shocks with no added travel, but I know I've seen them on sale for as cheap as 1350.
Myself when the time comes I'll be selling my current set up an going with the external res, extended travel bracket lift radflo with the adjuster with the rears to go With it. I imagine they will be a custom length to be 8" with no preload.

My bracket lift Radflo coil overs actually had the truck sitting lower on the front end after I took off the Procomp strut and spacer and my 35's were rubbing at full lock when I hit a dip. If you don't want to preload the fronts, call Greg at PRG. He sent me a set of taller top hats for my resis and it solved my problem.

he's on methods, 18x9...i'm assuming -12 offset, only other option would be the +18. BUT idk. he never texted me back when i asked him what his offset is.....

#41 ·
They aren't inverted anymore? I wonder if that's an actual picture of the Titan specific ones. Those look like Toyota shocks. Long eyelet on the bottom.

#43 ·
There ya go, that looks correct. Hahaha Walmart. That's fantastic. 1500$ is stupid tho.

Curious because I can't find any info on this...does FOX make a coilover for the bracket lifted titans? I found a super old thread from 2009 from someone selling some that did, but there was little info. I'm just curios if someone knows because I can't seem to find any!

I originally heard other members talking about the Radflo clunk and for the first full year I had them, I assumed I just got a good batch since they were clank free but within the last couple of months, it's been very noticeable turning in to parking lots while hitting a dip, not in a straight line. I contacted Downsouth Motorsports where I guess Dirk King sends their shocks to be serviced but they are booked for months and it's several hundred dollars for them to open them up with no guarantee that they can fix it. Plus as my daily driver, the truck would be on blocks till I get them back. Super annoying when you spend that much money on them.

It drives me crazy listening to it, just driving down a regular paved road....clunk clunk clunk clunk an so on. Off ever little imperfection in the road. The passenger side is problem free and doesn't bottom out like the driver side.

So you have the external res coilovers right? Damn I thought they didn't get the clunk? Maybe just get new bearing an change them out yourself as a cheap try/fix?

It's unfortunate about the Radflo's as that was going to be the ones I was going to go with but I've heard too many horror stories and now you two as well.

I'll be going with Icons if I can't find a fox coilover for the bracket lift
