I will be doing this mod over the holidays.

Well after reading almost all 22 pages of this I have decided that I will do this mod tomorrow while my wife is running a program at church... My reason for this decision is HP or no HP gain like most guys LOUDER = BETTER if it is not doing damage to something that costs this much! Thanks for occupying the last 2 hours of my time is now 4AM.......:read:

I did the mod a wile ago right after i put my Stillen CB on and my butt dyno thought i gained some of that low end torque I lost with the new stillen CB (drop in k&n also).
Has anyone plummed up a snorkel to go inside the fender to go behind the headlight(with headlight removed for the track) for better flow of air like they do on the chevys. or something along those lines? I also had a man come in to my shop with a dodge with the airbox snorkel plumbed to go under the front bumper and it was just hanging down there, you could see it just by looking at the truck from the front, like ware the airdam would go(true ram air???)lol just some ideas, most likely no gains to hp.

i believe Deerslayer did this on his, and a few others. I think it was worth a few tenths in the 1/4 mile. So, equating that to real world driving, it's doing something. I don't think we have actual dyno numbers for a ram air mod though. There is a thread around here that he posted this in. Look in the DIY sections or just search for ram air mod and you'll be able to find it.

I did that on mine to get less-dirty air coming in. Granted I most of the front of my truck is gone so I have more to work with. My mileage hasn't changed with any of these mods so I personally don't believe there is any real gain anyway.

Just did this about 30 mins ago, and I actually left it all in the truck and used the nylon string, I can't believe I didn't know the string would cut it like that, literally 5 minutes tops and it was cut, put back together etc.

I took a quick spin, definitely noticed a bit of the intake noise you'd hear on an aftermarket, maybe a touch more of throttle response, too soon to tell, anyway, great, free mod!

Did this a few days ago. Already had a drop in K&N. Didn’t notice any change...

Not hating but I think this didn’t do anything. If someone found a good way to make the intake tube from the fender to the air box bigger I think there would be better results.

Not sure about the rest of you guys and MPG gains But here's what I experienced.

I did this mod on my day off.
I usually use 1/2 tank to and from work each week on 89 octane. This week I put 91 octane in it and managed to only use 1/4 tank, and I drove the exact same as I always do. Id call that an improvement, Could be more related to the fuel change though.

It could also be related to the cold front we had move into Vegas this last week, who knows. Either way it saved me money!

I was told not to run anything other than 87 no exceptions...Why???

Thanks to 'titanpowerr' for linking me to this thread! Looks like I know what I will be doing after work!

I bought this truck and it is certified pre-owned. I go back for a check-up in October, and I am wondering if this is something they will check. If so, I wonder if this will void the warranty. I guess I could call and ask, but I am not 100% comfortable doing that.

Unless your specifically tune for higher octane, running anything else beside 87 is a waste of $$.
If you want to run higher octane it will not cause any harm.

You shouldn't have any problems with this mod as far a warranty goes IMO.

Thanks buddy! Worst case scenario, I just claim it was like that when I bought it!

Who would saw up their intake????................

Mod done. Not bad at all! I took the whole box out and wrestled the pins out. I used a sawsall and a razor knife. Then used file bars to file the edges round, and knock off the burrs.

I also stopped in to Advance and dropped a K&N in.

I would say there is certainly an increase in throttle response in mid-range, and it seems to build power easier up top.

Thanks to all that contributed ideas to this thread. Great mod for the $!
