How do I reset the low tire pressure indicator

Last week the -7 degree temperatures as usual deflated my tires on my 2006 Titan to the point that my warning light on the dash (little yellow tire) came on. Also the Nav system that shows the actual pressure of each tire will only read an asteric and the little tire light on the dash will not turn off.

How do I reset everything.

Air the tires up is first on the list. Then drive for a few miles and it should go away.

There's a thread out there somewhere. Let me see if I can find it for you.

Thank you very much Carbeaux, believe me I appreciate it, but I have to ask. Are you sure there is not a more complicated way to do this? At first I thought it was a big joke to see who would actually try it! If this is the only way I guess I need to try it :frown:!

The complicated way ($) is to take it to the dealer. The less complicated way is to take it to a tire shop. Then there's the thread I posted.

There are a couple of tools you can buy to make the reset easier. One tool is about $20 and the other is about $100 (if it is even still available).

If you have one sensor that isn't responding then it's possible that it has reached its life expectancy which is generally 7 to 10 years. Sometimes a reset will work. I have one sensor that just seems to get "lost". I'll reset it and it works fine for another year.

every time my light comes on the dash, i take it to a dealership and they reset it for free. done it several times now with the weather always changing out here in Utah. usually takes about 5-7 mins. enough time to snag a coffee

This is why I joined this web site. My sensor flashes constantly for about the first minute of start up then goes solid. According to the manual it means there is a system malfunction.

I took the truck to a tire dealer who reset it and said the system checks all the tire sensors upon resetting. According to them the tire sensors are working fine. The problem is it comes back on a couple days later. I have had it reset three times now.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to trouble shoot the problem to determine what is actually malfunctioning?

I haven't ruled out the the tire sensors because I don't have much faith in the tire dealer so any info on those would be appreciated also.

As an FYI for anyone reading this post and wondering if the fix in post 5 works I can confirm that is does. I did it this afternoon and it worked like a charm. Thanks for posting this!

The system only monitor's Low Pressure situations so you must have a issue with one of the sensors.
BTW 52psi is WAY too much for our trucks unless you are towing. 42psi is more than sufficient for a larger aftermarket load range E LT tire.

I doubt the higher pressure hurt them. Yeah you can bring those down to 38 to 40 psi. Your ride will improve a ton.

it will go off about the time you hit bout 38 or 40, at least mine does. I run about 42-44 and every fall when it drops down below 10 degrees it goes off and I air them back up.

The great guys at Discount Tire reset mine for free. Tried the paperclip method, but it didn't work.

Im running Duratrac's as well max psi is 80. I was running 40 psi but finding better fuel mileage and it handles the weight of my trailer better at 50 in the front and 65 in the rear. Is there any way to recalibrate the system so it knows that is normal pressure or am I pulling the bulb out of my cluster??

On my '07 it will flash for 1 minute and then stay on solid. This is normal whenever I swap between winter and summer tires and forget to reprogram the system. At least on my model year it is not an indicator of a system malfunction, it's just telling me that it isn't communicating with the sensors. Not all model years work the same way.

If a reset works for a while and then fails then it's possible that you have a bad battery in one or more of the sensors.
