I just received the intake an hour ago and took a few pics comparing the Airaid tube and filter to my extra S&B tube and filter. There's a huge difference in size. Airaid's tube opening at the TB is 3.625" and the S&B is 2.75". Airaid's filter ID is 6" compared to S&B's 3.75" ID. Overall build quality of the Airaid MXP system is excellent!! I'll probably install it tomorrow and post a follow up with a data log and performance opinion.

3.62" that converts to 92.075mm, perfect for us 90mm tb guys!

Congrats! I plan on getting one myself eventually! How much was it?

Thanks, I didn't buy it from the vendor that the others did. I found a good price on the oiled filter version for $215 delivered.

That filter is huge compared to the S&B. Can't wait see the #'s on that bad boy. Might have to jump on it myself bro.

Good price! I want the oiled version also.

Then have to try to find a pre-filter to fit it.

Hello gweasel77,

We offer a Pre-Filter specifically for the Titan Filter.

P/N # 799-472

Why such a huge price gap between the oiled airaid mxp and the non-oiled?? What's the pros and cons of each??

Sent from my Autoguide iPhone app
Hello MyPro4X,

Not sure of any huge gap. The SynthaMax kit's are usually $7-10 more depending on the size of the filter.

Doesn't that defeat the whole purpose?

You're only as good as your weakest link, and a 3" bottleneck is still and 3" bottleneck....right?
NO, that's completely false.

It's all about airflow dynamics. The Size of the MAF does NOT dictate the amount of airflow. That is a very common misconception.

The AIRAID flows more air than the 5.6 could ever require.

Thanks,
David

Cool man! Do you plan on running it at the track? I'd love to start seeing some real numbers on this Airaid kit. I'll get one if it gains = to or more than my .19 gain due to the fact that it has a closed box and the quality.

#9 ·
No, the local track is closed already, and the one in Wisconsin is open for this weekend and maybe one more (weather permitting). I'm curious what the IAT and WOT AFR logs will be compared to the S&B. If you saw this Airaid intake in person, I'm pretty sure you would want to give it a shot.

I just finished installing the Airaid MXP, and it took a bit longer than I thought it would. Larger intake components, with the same engine compartment, means tighter fit...lol. I went for a 15 minute ride, and it does have less resonance/vibration than the S&B did. I can't tell yet if there are any performance gains over the S&B. I want to put a hundred miles on it and then run some data logs. Installed pic below:

The filter barely fit in my truck lol.

Yep, it's a huge filter in a huge air box. If you look at the installed pic, the air box and filter is almost as large as the engine cover.

Put a few more miles on it today, and the Titan is running smooth. I can't help noticing how quiet this MXP intake is at zero to full throttle. I mean it almost sounds like the stock air box mod. Also, the JBA exhaust sounds a bit deeper. Data logs and butt dyno probably next weekend.

Good Lord Sudden!

Clean install Sudden! Yours i the first that i've seen w/o the air filter being all bent up. :)

Ran a short Airaid MXP data log today. My laptop battery is getting bad, and it only powers the laptop for about 20 minutes, so I logged only a few sensors with a couple of WOT runs. Outside temp was about 55, and it took 10 minutes of idling to get the IAT temp to 90. The airflow GM/S recorded a 246 max, so that is about 30 points higher than the S&B intake. That higher WOT GM/S reading caused a richer WOT AFR of 12.0-12.7, instead of the S&B intake WOT AFR of 12.5-13.2. This was logged running the Superchips 87 performance tune.

Hmm... I guess the 4" ram air is doin work for me. I'm logging 240's all day, getting close to 250 at times. It's good that just the airaid cai is getting in the 240's, just imagine what it'd do with the ram air. Here's one i had saved:

eh, you cant really see it, its 249.56

#24 ·
Your GM/S S&B reading is very unusual. Deerslayer and others with the S&B and ram air logged about 220 max. That was always why S&B users ran near the lean side at WOT. Your S&B intake tube is unique with a 250 GM/S readings.

I have no idea why there is a gap on filter price, other than more people prefer a dry filter, so more demand equals higher price. The oiled filter flows more air and filters better than their dry filter:

The differences between SythaMax dry and SynthaFlow oiled - the SynthaMax non-oiled filter will flow less air than traditional oiled filters, with the main advantage being that you can do away with the chore of oiling the filter, but can re-use the filter after a simple cleaning with house hold soap and water. The SynthaFlow filters are oiled and provide better filtering compared to a dry filter, but must be cleaned and re-oiled periodically using AirAid's cleaning kits. For those demanding the most performance out of their air-intakes, the SynthaFlow (oiled) is the choice to make.

even more interesting. ive got the setup in the "good ole ram air mod" thread, and ive added dei cooltape to the tube.

#28 ·
not really. you still have to clean the dry ones, which is just a step from oiling it after cleaning it. I just didnt wanna deal with the oil, or the possiblity of over oiling it and getting it on my maf.

#29 ·
Nice pictures and report Sudden, I jumped on this bandwagon and have a Airaid MXP oiled filter (part # 520-284) on order :redblob"

S&B will be going up for sale after this baby is installed :redblob"

Thanks, you're going to like the Airaid MXP. Quality and fitment couldn't be better.

Definitely going to be my next mod!!! Oiled of course... :)

Does this airaid have a 3" sleeve in it or is it 4" all the way?

#35 ·

It has an integrated "sleeve" that's non-removable.

Whoever just PM'ed me about the oiled filter & pre-filter i accidentally erased the message & i forgot your screen name... LOL Sorry! :)

I haven't searched for a pre-filter yet. Contact Air Raid & see if they offer them yet for this size filter. If not try outerwears. That' where i got one i have now!

Has anybody with an AEM replaced the AEM with the Airaid?

#39 ·
Yes, there was someone that changed out the AEM for the Airaid MXP while he was at the track. He ran a tenth faster in the 1/4 with the MXP, and that was with a 200# passenger that wasn't in the truck during the AEM run. That tells me (not convinces me) the MXP is .2-.3 faster than the AEM in the 1/4 mile.

#43 ·
I'm going to make mine ram air & heat wrap the box like the one i have now! My engine bay deserves a little love in the appearance category. LOL
I'm glad i kept my 4" hole saw drill bit! Thing was like $35 @ Depot!!!:)

I'm thinking the same thing. Swapping out my current S&B with dual DIY ram-air with this kit, and keeping the same DIY ram-air design. I'm wondering if a DIY lid would also be beneficial....?.?

In the SC thread, a couple of the SC guys have gone to Stiegemeier for blower, TB, and manifold porting (which I'm also planning - hopefully in Dec). I’m wondering how that work will jive with a DIY ram-air 4” intake. Couldn't hurt I suppose.

I had an AEM on my first Titan and it sounded great when you stomped on it, but I got tired of the growl when I towed. I may tow my boat to the keys this summer. Listening to the intake for 17 hours won't cut it. I wish there was some way that you could temporarily quiet the intake for times like that.
