Nismo Header possibility and B-pipes

Okay guys, here is the scoop. I took my Nismo headers down to a guy, who at this point will remain nameless, unless I can gauge enough interest in this. This is NOT at this point a done deal, there are a few issues that have to be overcome yet for this to happen. I don't have the exact measurements of things, I just let him do his CAD thing. It appears first of all, that the Nismo headers are not exactly a true length primary header, yes, they are far closer than the others on the market, but indeed are not a TRUE primary equal length header. Couple of problems encountered with this during the CAD process and his equipment limitations. First item is he is confident he can make them, albeit with a few smaller changes in the design. It might be possible for him to make the primaries closer to equal length, but remember, he has a full time shop, and this doesn't get the full priority. The collectors will go from 2.25 to 2.50. He feels he can make the b-pipes too, but some cat research and such will have to be done. I have a set of ????'? as you all know, so have the measurements for those also. Trying to get this as economical as possible, yet make as close to original as possible too with maybe a few enhancements to help them. First things first, they will be stainless, both headers and b-pipes. Problem is the manufacturing, he doesn't have the proper die for the pipe diameter for the primaries, and that die is not cheap, it is 4K. It is true, I saw the paperwork for the cost of it. He doesn't have that, so in order really to proceed, at this point in time I am gauging interest in these for him to see if he can make a set, but they will be around the $850 range, the headers. I understand his situation, he is not a big shop, but he does have a Titan, so we have a test vehicle for the fit/finish deal. He also has a mandrel bender, but does not have that size die, expensive item. He also has a Mustang dyno, so there can be performance gains calculated. He is also and Uprev tuner, so as you see we have a bunch of things in line. So really at this point in time, I am just gauging the interest as to who would want a set of these. I know this has been tried before, and fell through, and this may too if not enough are seriously interested in this project. Next item on the agenda, I make nothing off of this, nothing from him, well yeah there was, I wanted a windshield sticker for mine, but honestly that was it. So we have an initial proven design and he has the majority of the CAD done on the headers, b-pipes don't take long, but have to research the economics of it. He has to find cats and such to make them affordable and performance oriented enough to do. I know there are other guys that make b-pipes out there too, and this is not to take away from them, they are doing a great job, but some of the premier b-pipe vendors honestly have priced us out now. As I see it right now there is only one guy making these in our price range, I won't mention names but he knows who he is. The b-pipe thing may not happen and may, first things first is the headers, b-pipes are the easy part really as I see it. Now I have also seen this turn into we have no clue what the people are that are interested or not and how many, so I ask of one thing. PM your handle to me so that I can keep track of how many, that way no one copies a post that missed someones name and such. I need a reasonably accurate account now of who is SERIOUSLY interested, but remember, still a development phase as of right now to gauge the interest. He has had mine for the last couple of weeks to get the measurements, and he is now formulating what he needs to build the jig to make the first set. He has a set of flanges that will be here next week to validate the cad dimensions for those. So hopefully this will proceed, if not enough interest is there, I am sure he will find out a way to make a set for himself since he has a cracked manifold anyhow. Everyone knows it can't be a major labor intensive effort to make these as production units or we are back in the same boat with prices un-affordable. So read this again carefully, put some thought into it, and PM me if you want to be on a list that is serious about this. If you change your mind, please be considerate enough to let me know also so that I don't have erroneous numbers too. Thanks guys and hope we can make this happen for those that want another alternative. Sorry I forgot the teaser to this, so I had to edit and attach some images. These will be merge collectors also as you can see from the CAD, just missing the flange addition and the collector flange on the CAD part and yes you would have flanges and NO welding. You can see the seams on these and see that they are labor intensive to make so keep that in mind with the approximate price, and that came from him, not me on the price. I simply let him use mine for CAD work, and again, I make nothing off this. One other thing, let me know just headers, just b-pipes, or both, I will keep track of both, and only post on one site please, that way I don't have to find the duplicates. I know many already have b-pipes to work with and just want headers.

Good luck with this!!!!! Just another idea to throw at you.. is a stepped pipe design 1 5/8s to 1 3/4 with 2.5 primaries would be the ultimate header for this truck again just my opinon

Thanks firelife25, he is more into this than I am, he is an import guy, rotaries to be exact and I will pass that on to him as well to see what he thinks about it too. All ideas are on the table here believe me. Just to add to this, firelife25 gave me a great idea also, to document all the suggestions in a file so that I can take them to him also to see what he thinks. He is a racer, and builds custom exhausts for all the import racing guys, also known as a great tuner also, so like I said, it's still in the prelims here yet, but I know we have had a gap on headers for a while so we will see what we can do about that. I don't always get to the sites, I am on the road ten days and home four, but I will check as often as I can.

Sorry I'm full of ideas today.....Some ball flanges would be nice as well...pretty much eliminates leaky gaskets...couple pics!!

Tryin to keep the cost down, not run it up LOL Those have some problems of their own too, leaks are still not uncommon in those, if you don't pull them down square. Then you are limited on what else they will fit too also. B-pipes would have to fit that way, so if you didn't have those headers, you couldn't use the b-pipes and vice versa.

and that means? I need serious commitments for him to progress so I need certainty that people are seriously wanting some. 4K on a die is alot of money to spend and not use. He is a small shop guy, not like some Stillen companies, or Thorley's where 4K is a drop in the bucket to them. If really interested, PM me, I am keeping track of three sites for this and don't have the time to go through each and every post to see if someone said yes. Thanks guys, I have a job too and I have to do this very efficiently to keep track of it.

Just got word back from him on the gauge for headers and b-pipes

headers will be 304 stainless 14ga. B pipe will be 304 stainless 16ga.

I can't see why half the guys on this forum wouldn't want these. If I didn't just make a nice score on my Nismos, guarantee I'd be putting my name on that list. And I like the idea of the stepped tubing, other than the fact that it's not a "race" vehicle, I'm surprised that no one's come out with them. Hytech, RMF, SMSP all come to mind on those...if they go through production I'll take your info and sell them to everyone I see in a Titan!

These headers will have 2.5 collectors, so the 2.25 b-pipes will have a restriction in them at the flange, so I do not recommend your current b-pipes for this use. There is no projected date at this time, that all depends on the interest this generates, if not enough people are interested, it will not go forward. The first post in this outlines this in probably too much detail but that is me, the reason for the interest needed is that he would have to buy a die to make the primary pipe bends, that die cost 4K. So in order for that to happen he has to know how much interest there is in this. He is a small shop, so he doesn't have 4K to throw away like a Stillen or a big organization.

Yeah thought about posting up on our NTTE also, but figured folks would see it here, plus isn't like FB traffic on this has been light either. Cat is outta the bag though now. Now I have to find time to get mine on, I will be looking very closely at time openings to do this now.

That's Yes Sir , I am in the market for Headers.

He has 2.25 b-pipes though, and the collectors on these headers will be 2.5 that is not a good mix. You are taking a larger collector to a smaller pipe in the b-pipe flange entrance, that is not good. if this was done in the pipe itself from 2.5 to 2.25 without the butt face of the flange there, it would work fine, but that is not the case, it will have a flange right there at the the 2.5 collector exit trying to squeeze past that square face flange into that pipe, not a good recipe. Exhaust gas velocity will get killed right there where those two flanges meet.

Glad I got the 2.5 Cajan's from nightowl,,,,,,,,

Well, since my 5-year-old Magnaflow catback just split down the seam of the muffler, I'm gonna want to replace the entire exhaust system so I'm going to be looking at header options and bolt-ons will get priority!

Just PM me and let me know when you are serious enough to want on the list.
