Well today driving to work I was trying to floor it and my rpm's wouldn't go over 5,000 rpm's did this 3 times and it seemed like it was stuck for some unknown reason. Wasn't popping any codes or anything, so I flash to map 1 to make sure it was in the correct map and turn off the truck. I give it about 45 seconds and start it up, and get going to about 20mph again and floor it and it goes past 5,600 finally and as it is reaching 6,000 I hear and feel a loud thud and shudder under the floorboard of my truck.. Low and behold the pos Jatco strikes again!! I'm done with it, done trying to make a tinker toy into fort knox.
Called Uprev and they agreed to do all the upcoming work for me.. my truck might become a fixture piece again there but I don't care, I want it built right and built strong, with NO NISSAN JAP CR@P ECU OR TRANS!!

Uprev is going to source me a builder for my vk56 block and stroke it to atleast a 6.0L with forged internals, install a Motec stand alone computer system, install a FLT level 6 4L80E chevy trans with a 10.5" billet torque converter with trans brake. Last thing should be a fully legal rollcage for low 10's
total estimated cost is around 20-25k but should easily have around 850-1000rwhp /w 16# of boost when i get it back..
Might also push past the limits of my GT4094R, might have to upgrade to the larger GT4202R

some of you might think im insane for doing this but i refuse to let this jatco pos trans and nissan craptastic ecu stop my endeavors..

Stay tuned

Crazy! Sounds like an adventure, why the 4L80 if you don't mind me asking?

those are the 4L80e transmissions.. FinishLineTransmissions has imo the best upgrades available for them, they really beef the hell out of it and have been used on 1,200 rwhp cars and trucks. I remember long as you use thier billet converter they will offer an extended warranty

http://www.finishlinetrans.com/transmissions/extremeDuty4L80.htm
for 4,000 you get billet input shaft and transbrake, and deep trans pan, add another 1,000 for the billet 10.5" torque converter.

why dont you use an automatic 6 speed out of the g8 ??? those hold plenty of power... better yet, why not just throw a ls7 with a t56 in it ? it will probably cost half as much ! and make way more power !

Unlike others, I have no advice for you. :( But I sure like what you're doing.

Hey Toomnymods,
I have a 4L80 in my truck now. I have been running it for two years now and have not had a single problem. Great trans. Also you might want to look at this ECU G4 Xtreme - Top End Engine Management — Link Engine Management Systems - plug-in & wire-in aftermarket ECU's
it's similar to the Motec but it can use the oe sensors and it does drive by wire and it has a base tune for the VK56 to get you going. I am having it installed in two weeks. You are correct the factory ECU is very difficult to work with. Good luck with your project.

25 grand, why are you even bothering with nissan motor anymore?
You guys are completely missing the point... He wants something that is unique & different from the norm. Everyone knows that it can be done with GM trucks, but to do it to a Nissan is just WAY cooler!!!!!! :)

Well I have been thinking this over for a while and decided to do all of this in 3 stages.. (Provided the ecu don't flip the fook out and keep my truck from working) then i automatically will complete everything in one stage..

I just don't want my truck sitting for so long when i can buy me a junkyard motor and have it being built, causing less downtime, less stress, and i whether pick and choose what internal components my engine builder uses.. I don't want them using cheap cr@p just so they can make more of a profit.

Stage 1
Dropping off my truck at Jake's Performance Transmissions in Sanger, Tx. around Jan 2nd or 3rd
After talking with the owner today he guarntees the stage 4 trans he builds will be plenty to hold any amount of power I can throw at it.. he estimated 1,400+ crank hp
This isn't your normal refurbished build here is what is done..
Stage IV: Includes all new friction materials, steels, bands, rollerized forward hub, rollerized output shaft thrust, heavy duty intermediate snap ring, 6 clutch direct pack, Hi-Energy carbon clutches in select locations, hydraulic modifications for much increased power capacity and firmer shifting. Billet input shaft and Billet forward hub, billet rollerized forward hub, billet intermediate shaft, 36 element sprag Super Drum , new boost valve assembly, new shift solenoids, manifold pressure switch, and replace all internal wiring and last but not least A TRANSBRAKE!! God I can't wait to launch on a transbrake with 5-8lbs of boost right off the line, should definatly help me get some low 60's hopefully in the 1.6 to 1.65 range or better :)

man what a deal :) all of that for $3,850!! and no core charge. He is also selling me the optishift and said out the door price for everything should be around $5,100 installed :)
I also am supplying the Menard's Engine Development VK56 to turbo 400 transplate adapter( TH 400 and 4L80e's have same bolt hole configurations), this comes with new starter, new flexplate, and all mounting hardware for $2,100
He is leaving it up to me to choose my own converter, I'll probably end up getting a 3000 stall 10.5" billet Yank converter which is around a $1,000 by it self.
Should have my truck back by Jan 10th he said it'd only take him 1 day to build my trans and maybe 5-6 hrs to get it into my truck and fabricate the rear mount and take driveshaft measurements. Driveshaft company will probably take 2 days to make me a custom driveshaft And then maybe a day to tune the optishift controller.
After that i'll just drive it home and start saving for stage 2 which will happen over the summer since I hate racing during the summer anyways I figure 4 months should give me ample time to save 10-14k for the stroker motor and labor..

You ever seen this truck-

In the details its listed as having a built motor with CP pistons and Crower rods. Might be worth hitting the guy up for some info.

Is this stage 4 transmission a build up of your existing Titan transmission? Or a completely different transmission?

#33 ·
I was told, cannot remember what tuning company it was Uprev or Cobb, that the ECU and TCU communicate with the ABS computer. This is the reason no one has tried to change the shift pattern in our tranny.

If this info is correct you may have a problem with the brakes after this install. I hope you do not have any, but like me Murphy's Law always rears it's ugly head.

I'd just toss the ABS... been thinking about it in my truck cause on downhills with soft ground it kicks on and i end up free wheeling down without brakes. I'm sure if he can handle a 10second T he can handle stopping without locking them up...lol

This is all great info! The Ultimate Titan Build!!!!!!!!! :)
