I'm not nearly as old as you, I'm only 59. As a business owner I have gone through a lot of trucks. We still use mostly ford vans but as far as trucks go, my '05 Titan has been trouble-free and runs better than any other truck I have owned. I'll just keep it till it wears out. OBTW, Dodge is at the bottom of my list.

I drove Dodge pickups for sixteen years before I bought my Titan. Bought it for the motor. The mechanical end of the Dodges held up really well. The Nissan motor in a Dodge drive train......shouldn't be too bad.
Or Nissan motor in a Nissan affiliate drive train:

"This latest OEM supply agreement extends a long standing product exchange relationship between the two corporations, with Nissan affiliate JATCO already supplying Chrysler with transmissions since 2004."

Update #4: 04-15-08 05:07 PT

Mississippi's Star Clarion Ledger offers further insight into what Nissan is thinking about its new manufacturing partnership with Chrysler.

Dominique Thomann, Nissan North America senior vice president for administration and finance, says although it's likely the half-ton will be based on a Dodge frame, Nissan will design the pickup. Some styling, performance and other key Titan elements will be retained, though Mr. Thomann said he didn't know if the name would be kept.
:crying:

If this comes to fruition, line me up at the Toyota dealership. I'll be sad to lose my Titan but I'm not going to end up driving my 2008 El Camino... er Titan around for the next ten years.

I hope to drive mine for 20! Looking for those Antique/Historical tags! :)

Look, the next Titan is practically done with sourcing, so it WILL be a UNIQUE design and powertrain. Nissan has invested a bunch of money into the Dechered Engine plant in TN to make the next V8 engines. Transmissions will be from Japan again. Chrysler is ONLY going to assemble what Nissan has designed and sourced. The RAM was designed and debuted before any of these talks were completed, so they are already 2 different trucks and to redesign and resource / reprice everything would be way too much work to do before SOP.

The big question is, the 3rd generation Titan....
Maybe the 2nd Gen Titan build quality (not design quality) won't be up to par as well as a Cerberus decision to close the plant down due to Chrysler financial issues, making Canton look like a golden child, and the 3rd generation Titan will be back in Canton. I'm not looking for the Titan to fail, but I am sad to see a source of Canton pride leaving. Man, what a week to be taking a week of vacation. My e-mails are going to be interesting when I get back to the plant on Monday.

As much as it saddens me to think that the Titan may be going the way of the dodo, I'm not going to fall prey to panic or hysteria like others have here on the forums. I love my '04. In almost 75,000 miles I've had the breaks upgraded and the drivers side window electric motor replaced under warranty. That's it! Best luck I've ever had with a vehicle. Been looking to buy a '08.5 Pro4x in the next month or so. Great deals to be had on a great product... don't want to pass that up!

I'm truly sad! I love my truck. It has been the best truck I have ever owned and performs wonderfully in the Colorado snow. Hopefully, Nissan will be able to have enough influence in the design to keep the essence of the truck the same. Otherwise I will be moving on as well.

This news has got me wishing Toyota would engineer the ugly out of the Tundra:crying: Well, I was planning long-term to get a diesel anyways, at least it'll probably have a Cummins now....here's to a good run!

At least they didn't ask Ford to build their truck for them. It sucks though because the next generation TITAN will not be a true Nissan. 04-09 are going to be the only true...... and real Nissan made trucks.....sad. Well Nissan....you lost me until you start making your own trucks again....until then you'll won't find me looking at your lots again.

Well, I'll keep my truck for a while then. Nothing on the market outside of the Titan excites me. Ford with its update will still have a dog of an engine and no transmission upgrade. I don't want cylinder deactivation. And agreed Toyota needs to design out the ugly factor and redesign its frame before it would be a consideration. I think this Mexico plant is going to be a bad deal for Nissan and a good deal for Dodge as they shift more of their manufacturing into the U.S., touting U.S. built and U.S. pride. Funny thing about all of this is that the last two Nissan products I really enjoyed had limited mass appeal, the Titan and my 240SX.

In my opinion, those two models parallel each other in terms of how Nissan brought something to market, both of which were great products, but Nissan to support them to their full potential. For the Titan, it has been some repeat reliability issues with differentials and that issue hasn't been aggressively resolved, and Nissan's stubbornness to keep the current differentials is a turn off to potential truck buyers. The consumer enthusiasm lost momentum, word gets out on the street, and we are at this point today.

For the 240SX, a great handling car and well built, was in dire need of a competitive engine here in the U.S. Again, Nissan's stubbornness kept that KA24E engine which paled against its competition. Even with the KA24DE two years later, it still was not well received in the power department and sales continued to decline. A last ditch effort to redesign the car into what I would call a secretary car, lost the support of current enthusiasts and did not appeal to the masses. The redesign lasted two years before the model was dropped.

I fear that this Titan redesign may follow the same fate as the 240SX, especially with the addition of the track record of poor quality from south of the border. I hope I am wrong and hope that a strong Nissan design influence continues with their future Truck products.

The end is coming...

I don't post all that much but I read this in the LA Times yesterday.

Nissan, Chrysler in vehicle venture

From the Associated Press
April 15, 2008

DETROIT -- Nissan Motor Co. said Monday that it would make a new small car designed by Chrysler and that Chrysler would make a full-size pickup truck designed by Nissan.

The agreement is part of a growing relationship between Chrysler and the No. 3 Japanese automaker as they try to adapt to markets buffeted by the economic slowdown and rising gasoline prices.

Both products will be sold in North America, and the new Chrysler small car will also be sold in Europe and other global markets starting in 2010. No financial details were disclosed.

The new car will be made at Nissan's Oppama plant in Japan. Chrysler will make the pickup, which will go on sale in 2011, at its plant in Saltillo, Mexico, the companies said.

The full-size Nissan Titan pickup will remain on the market until the new pickup goes on sale, said Dominique Thormann, senior vice president for administration and finance at Nissan North America. The Canton, Miss., plant that makes the Titan will start producing commercial vehicles for Nissan and no jobs will be lost, Thormann said."

It will be interesting to see how this new truck pans out.

I'm disappointed with Nissan for a couple of reasons.

The first is that it seems like they are giving up on the Titan. I understand that large trucks and SUV's are slowing in sales due to gas prices and other things. However I'd think Nissan would try and take advantage of that to try and come up with a more efficient truck. We already know that they can build one with great HP and TQ, now lets see it be more efficient. But more about Nissan giving up on the Titan. Look at Toyota, they made the T100 and that was a flop, then they redesigned it into the Tundra and that was a big seller. Now its on the new Tundra. Essentially that is 3 totally different redesigns for Toyota. I'd imagine that the Nissan engineers have learned a lot from the current Titan and could put all the improvements into the next generation Titan. Maybe they still will, but the fact that Dodge will be building them makes me curious how true to form the truck will be.

The other thing that really bothers me is that they made this announcement so soon. The transition isn't until 2010. We all know the Titans aren't flying off the dealer lots and the resale value is crap. Now that they made this announcement I'm sure it will only have more negative effects to both the consumer and Nissan.

I love my Titan and I was looking forward to a new one in a couple years. I guess I might have to see what else is out there when the time comes.

Is this the end of the Titan...

Saw this in the LA Times yesterday. Is this the end? Say it ain't so. I hope they keep the engine in whatever they decide to build.

Re: Is this the end of the Titan...

Several months ago, in an interview Carlos Ghosn gave to Automotive News, he said that the Titan, Armada and Infiniti QX would be discontinued after the 2008 model run.

When I read that, I knew that once the word got around, the Titan's resale value would plunge, and sadly, it has, at least at Nissan dealers.

Several days after reading that AutoNews story, I went to trade my 2006 SE CC off for a new Murano.

KBB trade-in value for my truck (with a total of 5328 miles) was $19,720.00.

The best offer I had from three local Nissan dealers was $14,000.00!

I now own a new Sequoia, the local Toyota dealer offered me $18,500.00 in trade, and that was the best offer I received, from any other dealer whose vehicles I considered: Ford, Nissan, GM.

Since I no longer own a Titan, and I've owned three (2004 SE KC, 2005 LE CC, 2006 SE CC), this is my last post on titantalk.

See y'all, it was fun...while it lasted.
