Hello everyone!
Some may recognize the screen name, most probably won't, but I've been around the block a couple of times.
So let me introduce myself.
My name is Allen Cox, of Denver, CO. I'm the new Off Road/Truck Editor for Nissan Sport Magazine. You didn't hear? Oh yeah, Nissan Sport Magazine is going Truck! We're starting out with 10 pages with a reverse cover, just flip the mag over and you'll see the Truck cover. Truck coverage, tech articles, parts reviews, event coverage, etc. will all be covered in more detail.
What makes me worthy of such a position? I'm glad you asked!
I'm a 21 year ASE Certified Master Mechanic and Nissan Certified Senior Tech. I'm also back in school for another career. A small little place in Golden, CO, Colorado School of Mines for Mechanical Engineering. I've worked on and modified all sorts of vehicles for either off road or road racing. Engine swaps, trans swaps, converting from 2WD to 4WD, building axles (even custom ones), transfer cases, rebuilding automatic transmissions, engines and whatnot are what I do for fun.
I'm currently the driver of a 2WD 2002 Xterra. But I'm converting her to 4WD with a trans/transfer case swap along with a Solid Axle Swap (SAS). Re-gearing the stock rear end with an ARB and 5.13 (the Nissan equivalent) with a custom Haxle front end comprising of a HP Dana 44 (+4" short side, -2" long side with turned knuckles). Swapping out the stock steering box with a forward swinging Ford unit so I can push the front axle out further to clear 35" tires, but she'll be wearing 33" units for a while. The rear end will get the customary 63" Chevy spring over conversion.
But enough about me, I'm looking forward to hearing from the big guys on the block, YOU!
What do you want to see? What DON'T you want to see? Realize, we have to include the Frontiers, Pathys, Xs, 720s, 620s, Armadas too. But you guys are the heavy haulers, the backbone, the ones I loved racing in my Frontier (and I might add, didn't do too shabby with my little 4.0) and swapping grins with at the next light (not that I support that sort of bad, bad thing
).
Hope to hear from you guys. Good or bad, let me know! And if I get long winded, tell me to shut up. My wife tells me that a lot.
I'm looking forwards to hearing from everyone.
Allen
