Hello everyone!

Some may recognize the screen name, most probably won't, but I've been around the block a couple of times.

So let me introduce myself.

My name is Allen Cox, of Denver, CO. I'm the new Off Road/Truck Editor for Nissan Sport Magazine. You didn't hear? Oh yeah, Nissan Sport Magazine is going Truck! We're starting out with 10 pages with a reverse cover, just flip the mag over and you'll see the Truck cover. Truck coverage, tech articles, parts reviews, event coverage, etc. will all be covered in more detail.

What makes me worthy of such a position? I'm glad you asked!

I'm a 21 year ASE Certified Master Mechanic and Nissan Certified Senior Tech. I'm also back in school for another career. A small little place in Golden, CO, Colorado School of Mines for Mechanical Engineering. I've worked on and modified all sorts of vehicles for either off road or road racing. Engine swaps, trans swaps, converting from 2WD to 4WD, building axles (even custom ones), transfer cases, rebuilding automatic transmissions, engines and whatnot are what I do for fun.

I'm currently the driver of a 2WD 2002 Xterra. But I'm converting her to 4WD with a trans/transfer case swap along with a Solid Axle Swap (SAS). Re-gearing the stock rear end with an ARB and 5.13 (the Nissan equivalent) with a custom Haxle front end comprising of a HP Dana 44 (+4" short side, -2" long side with turned knuckles). Swapping out the stock steering box with a forward swinging Ford unit so I can push the front axle out further to clear 35" tires, but she'll be wearing 33" units for a while. The rear end will get the customary 63" Chevy spring over conversion.

But enough about me, I'm looking forward to hearing from the big guys on the block, YOU!

What do you want to see? What DON'T you want to see? Realize, we have to include the Frontiers, Pathys, Xs, 720s, 620s, Armadas too. But you guys are the heavy haulers, the backbone, the ones I loved racing in my Frontier (and I might add, didn't do too shabby with my little 4.0) and swapping grins with at the next light (not that I support that sort of bad, bad thing :) ).

Hope to hear from you guys. Good or bad, let me know! And if I get long winded, tell me to shut up. My wife tells me that a lot.

I'm looking forwards to hearing from everyone.

Allen

Welcome to TT! I see you're from Denver. I currently live in Littleton :D I now know who to contact for mechanical work if I cant do it myself. ;)

Welcome!

I am in Golden myself. I went to CSM and got a Civil Engineering degree back in 2004. I never left Golden after college. Great school! Not sure where you are from, but if you need anything, let me know.

Well, I'm currently living in Conifer, great location on the side of a mountain at 8000 feet. Mines is treating me well, as long as my wife can hold out being an RN, then I should be able to complete everything in a couple of years.

As far as pics of trucks, of course!

I'd love to own a Titan as well. I need a tow rig that I can also use around the property to haul wood around and clear stuff out. I just wish they'd come out with the diesel already. I'll be pushing the powers that be on that tidbit.

Well, I'm off to peruse this fine forum for some pressing issues and see who's got the sweetest rigs. By the looks of it, that's going to be a long search, too many nice rigs to count around here!

How about some rear axle swaps that leave cruise control intact? Upgraded front brake writeups would be another thing. Maybe covering some of the Titan meets that happen around the country.

lol my buddy's a mechanic and he always says "ASE= Ask Someone Else." welcome to TT

I'll have to check into that JDMartin. I know of one company that will custom make any axle that you want (like a Ford 9" center section with 14 bolt outers with the parking brakes intact) so maybe I can speak with the owner and see what he can come up with.

GrandpaX makes the axles, he'd just need to know what's needed. I think I could help him out with that.

As for the rest of it, I'm excited to get the ball rolling for showing the rest of the Nissan community what the truck guys do. I'm already planning several articles, I'm just trying to make sure my writers have enough information to start off in the right direction.

I think we just found the man to do the VK56VD Swap! :D

Ah yes, the Inifiniti direct injection unit. My boss at the magazine brought some race car parts by the other day for his ride and he was driving an Infiniti something-or-other (if it doesn't have a hamburger on it, I'm not interested) and asked if I wanted to see the VD engine.

Of course I did, I ain't stewpid! So I get up to the vehicle and pop the hood, nothing but covers and make-it-pretty stuff so you can't see the engine. So what do I do? I rip all the covers off (he didn't know they popped right off, I could tell by the horrified look on his face) and prepared to be amazed. But, all I got was disappointment. It wasn't the VD like I/he was told it was. Still had external injectors, hard plasticized fuel lines and no high pressure pump.

So, I'm still waiting to see this thing. If I can get the engine, I can make it work. Trust me, I did the engine, trans and steering swap on my boss' race car. It's one fast streak of Nissan!

Welcome to TT man. I look forward to reading your stuff.

Welcome to TT. Excited to see the mag. Kinda gets old reading 4X4 mags that are plastered with nothing but Jeeps and Chevy's. It's about time us Nissan guys get a little too. I know we are like the red headed step child of the Truck world, but come on lets see some T's already!

Welcome! Looks like I'm going to have to renew my subscription soon.

finally we will be able to see some titans/madas/X's/frontiers in a magezine! welcome to TT!
