I'm new to the site and just last weekend bought a used 04 titan from a wholesale dealership. 45 000kms on it and paid 28 000. I'm from Canada also to clarify. So I got my truck and was absolutely amazed. I had my heart set on a Titan and finally got one.

The salesmen at the dealership tells me that there was a recall done on the gas gauge and that it says I only have 1 quater of a tank but not to worry because rest asured its full and I would for sure get 400kms out of it. He just didnt have time to get it fixed. Ok thats fine. So me and my boyfriend start our trip home because we were getting the truck from a dealership out of town. So we start our trip home and get about 140km's out of the next major city (where we were going to stop and spend the night with family) and the truck dies. NO GAS! So I call the dealership, they say they can send someone with a gas can but that will take about two hours. Two hours, and my truck is already starting to cool down as I live up north in canada. I deicded to call the Nissan Road Side Assistance and they were great. They got someone out to us from a much closer area (even though the dispatcher for the two truck company was very rude and hung up on the road side assistance gentleman) so we get gas and we're back on our way.

By now I've also realized that my drivers side door is not sealing correctly. When I close the door it bounces back out maybe half an inch at the bottom. On the highway that makes for alot of noise. So now I am royally p.o'd that I've been stuck on the side of the highway in a cold truck with no gas, after I was reassured 3 times the tank was full and now my door is goofed also! I'm not a happy camper.

Another small thing I notice is that the shutter piece that I would use to change the direction of my air vents is not sitting properly so its useless. I have to actually stick my fingers in the spaces in the vents and move them myself(just 1 vent) Not a big deal really. I'm sure I can snap it into place myself but after being stuck on the highway I am very angry and now going to nit pick everything.

That night after we reached edmonton we decided we would go to a movie. And after coming out of the movie I go to open the passenger side door and the handle will not budge. I had to be let in by the driver from the inside. So I'm thinking ok weird but leave it at that. Then last night after reaching home (even more north then where I picked the truck up from) I'm coming out of a friends place that I was visiting and my boyfriend goes to open the door, and it wont open. So I let him in from the inside and then we cant get the damn door closed! We had to play with the door for about 15minutes in the cold before we could finally get it to stay shut to drive home.

Now after reading on the site I understand that the cables in the door handles go a little goofy in the cold whether. Ok I can see that. But are all these things not things that should have been taken care of before I took the truck off of the lot. All these things I am noticing now and I am absolutely furious. Especially the door! Whoever detailed my truck should have noticed that right away, but instead they turned the blind eye to it.

I absolutely love my truck. It was a major achievement for me. But now I am thinking maybe I should just tell the dealership to take it back because obviously its not in the shape it should be when it is given to someone.

So I guess what I am wondering is, if you were me and this happened to you, what would you do? What would you expect the dealership to do to make it up to you? I'm so mad right now I dont know what to tell them I want, but I dont want to get rid of the truck, but on the other hand I dont have a Nissan dealership is in city I live in. The nearest one is 450kms away, and the dealership I bought it from is 800kms away. It's not just a hop skip and jump down the road to get this stuff fixed.

Sorry the post is so long, I dont usually write stories but I had to get it all out. Any opinions or advice would be greatly appreciated.

I'd say it would have been nice if the dealer would have done all those things for you. It's sad, but they probably didn't spend all that much time in your truck, or messing with it to find out all that stuff. Hopefully they'll take care of it all without worries though. Good luck. It is a great truck and I hope you'll enjoy it, and the site.

That is absolutely unacceptable.

My girlfriend gets mad at me for it sometimes, but when someone, especially a reputed dealer or any type of store (like Target, Von's, etc) sells me a product that I am not 100% happy with, I bring it back. It is one thing to be the "b*tchy customer", and it is another to expect excellence, and a "ready for sale" vehicle. That's all you have to say when you go back, if you have a problem... "this vehicle was not ready for sale to a customer" and you can elaborate on the deficiencies that were not evident in the test drive that would have kept you from buying the truck if you are aware.

Welcome to TitanTalk and congratulations on your purchase. You should be aware, though, that the prior owner MAY have abused the vehicle and that the dealer MAY not have been aware of the problems. So, be friendly, but stand your ground. Let them know what your expectations are and how displeased you are. From a dealer standpoint, they want to make a friendly customer with high (but not unreasonable, and yours aren't unreasonable) expectations a happy person.

I think your best bet is to get those things fixed, IF the truck looks like it will be reliable mechanicaly. That does seem like alot of probs for a truck with so low miles(or KM's) but they can all be fixed and you will enjoy the truck!

GOOD LUCK!!!

45 000kms is 27961 miles, which means you might still be under factory warranty. I think it depends on the date the truck was originally purchased. If it is, find a good dealer and all of it should be taken care. Some dealers will allow you to return a vehicle within xx number of days and pay for mileage, but not many. I would find out when your truck was originally purchased and go from there. You should have made the dealer put it in writing that they were going to fix the gas gauge problem.

I have loved my 2004 and hope you get this taken care!

The dealership has told me that I am still under warranty. And when I was just talking to my salesman that was the first thing he said to me. I still need an exact date though. Thats great that its under warrenty I am very glad but I still have money coming out of my pocket to take this truck out of town to have it fixed which I should not be having to do.

Even after me and my boyfriend being stuck on the higway for a good hour with no gas, and telling them about my door not being set properly nobody phoned back to see how we made out or to call back and give options for how we could go about getting the door fixed. I work in the customer service industry and if something serious like that happened I would definitely be calling back to check up. Sure if they didnt make it home I'm sure they would have phoned again but thats not the point. Its the fact of showing the customer that you care and want their business. And here you do have 14 days to take something back. It will absolutely break my heart if I give this truck back but I shouldnt have to put out all this money to get things fixed that should have been done. They should be paying for everything to get this truck up to expectations.

As of right now I am waiting for the manager to phone me back. The salesman didnt beat around the bush just said he would have the manager phone me back which was kind of nice.

Is there a chance that the truck has been in an accident? The door doesn't line up, electrical problems, ect.. Just a thought. Good Luck. Hope things work out.

Welcome to the forum and sorry to hear about your issues with your truck. I have to agree with ablexus, firm, but civil is the proper approach. In USA, we have 3 days to hand a vehicle back or it's not a given. Those things should be taken care of for you and you should get them all done the first time if it's so far from your home. If they can't provide same day service, they should supply you with a loaner vehicle. A reputable dealer would do at least that. I had my truck back 3 times for the dealer to fix items and it started ticking me off. They agreed to fill the truck with gas when I brought it in, so I took it to them on fumes! You should at least get a full tank out of them for the time and trouble, besides getting the rest of the problems fixed.

Welcome to TT. I am sorry to hear about your problems. Try a carfax report
to see if any thing has been done. I also would continue to take your truck back until it is repaired correctly and you are satisfied. I would stand your ground and don't take bull S*** from any dealer because they may try to give some line. Good luck if you need help we will try to help.

Dealerships suck in my experience. If you're that far away, you're going to have to get things fixed yourself or get a local shop to do it.

My father in law brought his brand new '08 F-250 King Ranch home the other day and a diesel hose of some sort was already leaking and making a mess. I know it's a Ford, but my point is that even BRAND NEW vehicles will have problems, so I don't think anyone can expect to buy a used vehicle and have no problems, no matter what it is. I've only had my titan for a couple months and I've had a lot worse problems than the door not working right. My axle has popped out of the front differential already. I also live a long way from the dealer (also in Canada) and I find it's always best to just take the time and fix it yourself. I ordered a new C-clip from the dealer and they couldn't even get that right! They sent me the wrong one after four days of leaving the truck up on blocks. I got frustrated and just put the same one back in myself.

My conclusion: You own a used truck, things are going to break, don't count on the dealer!

I'm not relying on the dealer to fix all my problems. I took the truck off the lot on saturday. Noticed my door on saturday on the highway and the handle freezing later that night. These are not things that have happened even a week after I've gotten the truck. These are the next days issues. The door should have been dealt with in the detailing because anybody detailing my truck with two eyes could have seen it was out of alignment, which to me is not acceptable.

This may sound rude, but I'm not trying to be...Did you not inspect the vehicle before you took it off the lot? You say that any detailer would have been able to see the door was out of alignment, so that should mean that anyone could be able to see it...That's definitely something I would have checked out before I signed the papers...

But, I hope you get everything worked out..Keep us posted.

If I were to inspect every vehicle I considered buying, my purchasing process would have taken months. Never mind that it's uncomfortable inspecting a car in front of the salesperson and that you can not possibly cover everything unless you have the time and clothes you don't mind getting dirty.

The problem is not that she did not learn the problems with the truck until the next day. The problem is that the problems WERE noticed within 24 hours of purchase and there doesn't seem to be reconciliation being done.

Thank-you Ablexus. I couldnt have said it better myself. The people at the dealership are saying that I could have moisture in my door handles from when they were washing the truck. I dont really know how long moisture would last. But they are fine in the day and freeze up at night when it gets colder so it could be possible. I guess I will have to stick my truck in a heat garage and let it finish drying and see what happens then.

Some really good points have been made...

1. It is your responsibility to inspect the vehicle as well-even if you do not like to do so. Take it to a mechanic, get a CarFax on it, etc.

2. I am sorry to read about your troubles and with a vehicle that has that many miles on it, getting things fixed under warranty is essential so go back through the vehicle with a fine-tooth comb and identify those corrections now and in writing to the dealership. Documenting what you experienced should be made available to the manager for follow up-maybe they will help out.

3. Read the technical service bulletins so that you can be informed as to the issues that you could experience in the future. This information will help you discuss problems with the truck if they occur. (The door locks/handles freezing is a known issue.)

4. For a door not seating properly, get a carfax on it immediately! Repaired vehicles are fine-improperly repaired vehicles that are sold to consumers could be more serious. Find out!

5. Do not lose your cool-I'm sorry your buying experience is not as good as it can be and unfortunately it seems we'd be better off without some dealerships on the planet but you will need calm and patience in order to rationally explain what you have and what you are asking be done about it.

Good luck!

Ok, so I've talked to the manager at the dealership I bought from. He said that I can book my truck into a local body shop for the work and the dealership will pay for it. As for the gas gauge and door handles its under warrenty so I will have to book my truck in out of town to have that done. He said they will not be refunding the money I spent filling my tank even though I was promised 3 times the tank was full.... I've never heard of a dealership not giving the first tank of gas free but oh well. So now I am waiting to here back if I will be refunded for the gas I have to spend to get my truck down there to be fixed and brought back, and also I told them I would be wanting a new inspection done.
