Hey folks i got backed into after i had already backed outta my driveway... the gal across the street didn't see that i was in the road and just backed without looking. My question is, where do i find bedsides? I've searched and all i come up with is fiberglass and fender flares. Heres a pic: :crying:

ooh, that sucks. i have gone to my local body shop and had them look for parts for me. The smaller mom and pop shops are usualy cool about things like this.

why arent you takeing it to a shop?

i'm not sure if i'm going to take it or not... I don't have the money for the deductible so i'm going to see how much the damage is, already got a back bumper lined up its just getting a fender and getting it painted. I've been wanting a repaint anyways...lol.

if its her fault, why would you pay a deductable? Its her insurance that pays for it, if its her fault. you only pay a deductable to use your insurance. the paint is going to be tough to do yourself.

thats true huh... guess i've never been in a crash that wasn't my fault...lol. The cops came but didn't do a report so i guess i'll wait to hear from the insurance. She said we backed into each other but i was stopped

There is a bunch of welding that goes on that too, really to do it right they have to pull the bed off to do it. You are better off at a shop to have them do that, I have had both my sides replaced now due to careless drivers. I wouldn't touch it myself, leave that one for the body shop.

oh yeah thats true... all the pinch welds and whatnot, i've got buddies at the biggest auto body place in the area so i'm hoping to get it done cheap if i end up having to cover it

replacing a bedside is a huge ordeal. take it to a bodyshop. this is a pic of when i did it on mine

this is after we just had some fun cutting it off lol. after that we took the bed off the frame and drilled out all the spot welds.

That's going to be an EXPENSIVE repair!!! A shop would most likely pull the whole bed off & go from there.

Yep... A lot more.

Me too unfortunately!

It was well worth the $500 deductible though! Make sure you use a highly recommended body shop if you decide to have the insur. cover it!!!

Good luck with it!!! I've been there before. :)

The plug in for the lights on the hitch got bent too so they'll hopefully toss that into the price...

has anyone done their own work on an insurance claim? Do they just write you out a check for the total amount of damages?

#14 ·
haha i know right... worst part is it broke one of my backup sensors so everytime i put it in reverse i think someones there :bangit: i've got to comfortable with having those...lol

Those back up censors have saved my asre many many times!!!

Do they just write you out a check for the total amount of damages?
The wrote the shop a check for the repairs. IDK if they will just hand it over to the customer though?

Take those old sensors off when you get the bumper replaced and give them to your neighbor. Sounds like she needs em.

If you got her insurance info, you call them and make a claim. They will instruct you to go to one of their adjusters who will then assess the damage. Then they will give you a dollar amount for repairs. It's a good idea to get an estimate from your shop of choice to compare to their assessment, as they may try to low ball you. If you agree on the amount, they will either cut you a check, or forward it to the shop.

You should have gotten an incident report from the police, though. They may fight you on that.

Oh i never thought about calling her insurance... i hope they don't screw me over saying we backed out at the same time, i'm already paying $133/mo for insurance :bangit:

Never have the insurance company pay the shop directly. You have the legal right to have your insurance, or the other persons, write you a check. You give the insurance company the highest repair estimate, they cut you a check, you get it repaired at the lowest estimated shop.

Good luck. I am not sure what your laws are but some states have no fault laws where if it is not deemed one persons fault by the police, each party is on their own for their repairs. Even if the cop didnt issue a ticket, did he say whos fault it was in thw police report? The report will need to be filed with your insuranance most likely anyway.

i always have the insurance company pay the body shop directly. If you go the the cheaper shop, chances are they missed something and will charge you once its fixed. It happened with my last accident. My ins company said it was 5500. when it was all said and done it was 6900. I woulda had to fight them for the last 1400. with the shop billing the company direct, the headache isnt on you. trying to make a profit on an accident is stupid and more effert than its worth in most cases.

Never have the Insurance pay them directly, tell them to make a addendum to the claim if they find something else, maybe, but if they pay direct, then you have nothing over the body shop to make them do it right. They don't do it to your satisfaction, they don't get paid. Tends to make them do it right, I did the same when the dealership wrecked my truck, I had the check, I determined when it was right, then they get paid. It also forces them to not short change your repairs, make sure you check on it at least twice a week. Not call, go there, then you see the work, when they find out how picky you are, they don't tend to try and take shortcuts.

thats why i dont take my cars to crappy shops. good shops know word gets around and if they wanna stay in business they do good work from the word go.

shop around storm. Am fam was cheap for me. i have the T fully covered, an 03 murano SL AWD fully coverd, both have a $0 deductable for comprehensive, and i have a 98 integra with just liability. and 2 drivers on it. i pay $260 a month, and it barely went down when i turned 25. If you rent get renters insurance. it costs $10 a month, but you get a dual coverage discount, which lowers your vehicle insurance. I did that before i bought my house and my insurance went down when i had both coverages than just the 1 vehicle.

geez yeah i thought mine was bad! i'm 26 now so it went down like $5...lol. The back bumper it's between CVT's and Drty's... probably end up just having a shop do it unless i get a good amount...

Yeah if i didn't have the utility box on the side i'd cut it and put a prerunner bumper...
