Ok I'll admit it. I have been a mischevious boy.

This is a lesson on how to confound a Silverado owner.

My best buddy is a Silverado owner, as I formerly was.
Now that I have crossed to the "dark side" with my new Titan, he asks me
"How's the Titan?" And I always tell him "Love it!". He always answers " I'm still getting 20MPG, how 'bout you?" ,knowing of course that I've not gotten more than about 14mpg in the month I've had it.

After careful consideration I have decided to take action and mess with his head. Two weeks ago I began adding gas to his tank. Not enough that he'd notice, but each night I've snuck into his driveway and added about a gallon and a half each night. By the end of the week I had added about 8 gallons. A significant portion of his tank!

So last weekend I said " before you ask, yes I still Love it, and no I'm not getting 20 MPG" His face lights up and he says " Man I'm getting like 40MPG this week.!" I act amazed and say " NO WAY!" Made my tongue bleed in the process, but I didn't let on to what I did. He says man this new Silverado is "AWESOME!"

Unable to leave well enough alone, I decided to really mess with him. I continued sneaking in his driveway every night last week... but I SIPHONED the gas back out of his tank at the same rate I had added it the week before!
Yesterday he tells me he has scheduled an appointment with the dealer.
He says, " I don't know what the Hell is up with this damn thing, I had to fill up before the week was even over!" " I think I only got like 7 or 8 MPG!" He was also pissed because the soonest he could get into the dealer was next weekend.
I struggle to keep a straight face and say " Man that really bites! I can hook you up with the guy that sold me my Titan if you'd like." He scowled at me and stomped off.

Now I find myself in a moral delima.... Do I own up to my prank or let him take it back to the dealer and go through the old "we couldn't find anything wrong" routine?

Since it is the election season I'd like to see how my fellow members here on Titan Talk feel on the issue. Please post your comments and votes in this thread to let me know. Do I tell him OR do I keep it to myself?
Vote early and often, every vote counts!

Thanks for your support! :upsidedow

I'd tell him, but make sure you have witnesses & a camcorder rolling!
Yes please. I'd like to see that in WMV format! :upsidedow LOL

Naaah, don't say a word. Not until you two are old and gray sitting on the back porch. It's a joke. No one really got hurt, physically or financially, and everyting will be back to normal. Enjoy:upsidedow .
Cheers, Lee S.

LOL!!! THAT IS SO FUNNY!!!! WOW! I GET LIKE 40MPG!!!! LOL!! DAMN....I got like 8 mpg...what the hell!!! LOL....this prank is too much!!!:jester: :jester: Oh yeah...tell him whats up, you put gas in his tank and took out the same amount....so he can't say you stole his gas. Tape it if you can...and call the cops if it gets out of hand....wait....thats with Ford owners usually.

Ha Ha Ha Ha! I've heard variations of the same story for years. Is it real? You know...like did you actually do that to your friends truck? I'd be a little leary of doing something like that to a neighbors truck even if he was my friend around here. It's a good way to get the cops called on you from a noisy neighbor or somebody passing by.

20MPG from a Silverado? Heh, he must have the 4.8L.:p

Try diesel next time then tell him what you did LOL!!!! Ok, You need to tell him before he waistes his day at the dealer. He could lose some work time for it and that would really suck.

I agree! It was a good joke, but don't take it to the point where he loses money or work time over it. Witnesses are a good idea too, and someone big to pull him off you! :jester:

This is exactly what happened on a Gomer Pyle episode from the 60's. Gomer bought a car from the Sarge. Sarge puts gas in, Gomer sells car to another Sarge, first Sarge takes gas out! Car sold back and forth. Goes on for weeks, no one understands why Gomer got such unbelievable mileage. "I jus takes it real easy, that's all Sarge"
:)

Fess up soon. If you know the guy well enough to do what you did, he should be OK....but sooner or later....

Keep doing it and don't say a word, put more gas in the tank before his service visit and he will probably cancel because his mileage is great again.
keep messing with his head, that's what buddies do to each other, tell him the truth eventually, but not for a long long time.
My best man in my wedding still doesn't know that I put people up to calling him and quoting "Cornholio" from Beavis and Butthead for about 6 months at all hours of the day.He used to call and tell me how PO'd he was and I would just laugh my *** off inside.Someday he will know the truth....

Good prank, but I wouldn't tell him. It opens up the door (assumed permission) to have him mess with your truck.

Pretty funny...
Kind of like at my last job, we had a guy who started to diet to lose weight, and after about a week I switched his work uniform shirts with mine(not marked with any name) which are bigger...He put my shirt on in the morn before work, and is all thrilled...the diet is working! He was so stoked! The whole shop knew what was going on...

Yes, after 3 days I had to let him know(I was running out of shirts)and he called me alot of names, many begining with letter "F"

I'm glad to see that so many people here appreciate a good prank.
Voting so far:
Don't tell - 2
Neutral - 4
Tell him the truth - 9

I have come to realize that telling him the truth carries with it an additional benefit. He'll have to call the dealer and tell him that there is no need for a service appointment and they'll get a good laugh out of it as well.
Bet he doesn't rag me about my fuel consumption anymore!

i think thats hilarious. I would tell him. he should have a good sense of humor, no harm no foul. BUT, i would only have sone this to a good buddy!

Great prank! I think you should tell him as well before he wastes any time getting it checked. If it was me, I would definately seek revenge!

Now, I'm off to courtesy parts to buy one of the locking caps!

Let him know, but first tell him that you had another buddy with the same issue with his Silverado and it cost him a couple grand to fix. Get him all hot under the collar, then break it to him.
TitanOwnr You get extra credit for that idea. Please take your place at the head of the class!
