Rancho 4" lift overview

I said once I installed this and drove around with it for awhile, I would give a fair review of this lift kit. I will say this to start off with, this is a very nice kit and fairly simple to install. And before I go any further, I would like to comment on the "lift and shock overview" sticky. This seems like it would actually be the easiest lift kit to upgrade and get more height out of it due to it NOT using strut spacers.
Ok, back to the actual review. Install was fairly simple, I did have to notch a half circle in the frame with a torch to get a single bolt to fit correctly in the drop bracket. I went with the rancho XL9000 and I don't see what everyone complains about. They are decent shocks and the ride is pretty damn smooth and I would reccomend them to anybody. I measured the fender wells a couple weeks after install, so that everything had time to settle and the front fender measurement was 50.1" and the rear was 49.5" so the rear is a tad lower than the front, which kinda drives me nuts but I'll fix it eventually. For the price I paid for the kit, $1000 and the shocks were $220 for all 4, I wound up with about 5" of lift WITHOUT using strut spacers, which I plan on adding later on. I think this kit is definately worth the money and quite possibly the easiest to add height and more lift to. Needless to say, I love this lift kit and the way it makes the truck look so much more aggressive.
My next step, eventually, to add to this lift is to get a 3" spacer, PRG UCA's and probably the Deaver C-30 pack.
I will be taking and posting pics finally when I finally thaw out my truck, detail her and the weather goes above -40.

Thanks for the write up. I have been dyeing this lift for sometime. The only thing is I was a never a fan of the Rancho shocks only because of past issues on my Jeep. How would you compare the ride after the install with the 9000 shocks?

#3 ·
Well I had a set of rancho's already on her. But to compare the two, the ride actually got a lot smoother in my opinion, when I put the 9000's on.

The problem with the Rancho shocks is they don't last very long. On the lift, I've heard nothing but good things about the lift kit. But man you are at 50" up front? Thats really high for a lift that gives you 5"-5 1/2" of lift. Did you measure from the floor to the bottom of the fenders? Post some pics of the lift man..!!

I measured from the floor to the beggining of the fender, where it arches, so straight up and straight down. I think it's just under 5 1/2" of lift. The only downside like greg said is you HAVE to buy their shocks because thats where the lift comes from but at the same time I think if you add some good coilovers and the race springs from prg, you'd probably wind up with what, 7 1/2"-ish of lift. I love it! I will be posting pics as soon as I can get her cleaned up and the temperature gets above -30.

I doubt you can go that high. The spindles are not very tall, meaning you'll have a ton of coilbucket contact or your uppers will be maxed out constantly.

Ok, so I replace the UCA's... bam, no coil bucket contact. And from the look of it, the spindles are just about the same height as a 6" kit...
One thing I didn't realize, is there are ALOT of guys on here that rock the Rancho kit.

Well, maybe I measured it wrong... I'll go take a bunch of measurements at different spots and pictures, when it's not -35 outside.

#11 ·
lol...people with rc kits are gettin less height than your rancho. and rc kits are tall. just sayin. :)

It's finally starting to warm up outside (not -30 anymore) so I will be detailing and FINALLY taking pictures of her this weekend. They should be up NLT Saturday night.

Finally got her all cleaned up... Sorry the pics are so late but here they are.
Definately going to be ordering the Deaver c30 springs soon to bring the rear up to match the front.

truck looks sick as hell! The rancho lift gives such a nice stance. How tall are you sitting up front?

I need to go back out and remeasure everything. I've been researching it alot and aparently i measured it wrong so when I start the headlight mod next week I'll remeasure.

Thanks for the compliment though!

deavers will bring it way to high in the back. it looks perfect the way it is.

Well I was thinking, and please tell me if I'm wrong, but since I don't use strut spacers for the lift in the front, I could add on a 2" or 3" level in the front, which I already have from before, and the c30 or c10 pack and I would get those extra 2-3". I'm not saying I'm going to but I should be ABLE to if my reasoning is right. I have plenty of space for the UCA's before any kind of CBC.
I think she looks about perfect right now, but should I want to go taller in the future (everybody does) it shouldn't take too much.
Like I said, please tell me if I'm wrong, that way I can stop thinking about it, LOL.

Um, possibly. But the extra 2" could place a big angle on the cv's. And I really dont think the uca will be able to have enough droop travel after the spacer. Consider a stock pro, a 2" leveling kit DESTROYS the coil bucket. I would know lol. Until i ran prg uppers ha.

You will have to jack the front of the truck up until the tires are off of the ground to actually see how much coil bucket clearance you have. That is when our trucks all make contact "full droop". You could probably get by with a small spacer and some PRG upper control arms, but each truck is different. I have coilovers plus a 1.5" spacer and PRG arms, and I have lots of clearance.

No, I haven't gotten around to it yet been stupid busy with work. Not to mention trying to get my hids rewired into my new headlights. I'll go out there this weekend and do it for you guys. Sorry guys, I've been slackin'. Just rediculously busy. They will be remeasured no later than saturday!

It would good if you could also measure from the center of the hub to the top of the fender arch, that way tires don't come into play.

#27 ·
That's strange, you got around 4", and everyone else says the lift is around 5"ish. I've heard so many diff things about this lift.

Edit: unless I'm mistaken and you started off much lower than I think.

Is anyone or does anyone know of anybody running Bilstein 5100's with this lift? I was considering the CST 4" spindles but I'm leaning towards the Rancho lift again. I just don't want to buy new front shocks if I don't have to, I know the rears have to go...
