Brand New Titan, need Ipod and steering wheel controls tutoring?

Ok,

So, just picked a brand new 2012 Titan Pro4x on Monday. Wonderful truck. There is only one thing I can not seem to get right. The damn steering wheel controls with the iPod integration (stock, factory installed of course).

Essentially, all I'm wanting to do is switch songs using the button on the steering wheel. Simple as that, one function. However, when I press it, up or down, it essentially changes it to some FM station or something (can't make total sense of that).

Please tell me, there has to be a way to change songs, literally to the next or previous song, by using this button. Is there some mode I need to change it to? Is it not setup right?

Also, I can use the buttons on the actual stereo to change songs, but the steering wheel controls should do the same thing. What's the point of them if not to do this?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

i didnt know they had a ipod dock, all i have had or seen is an aux input. which means you can only change songs on your ipod.

Yep, it's an option they have now. Little 30 pin connector (same style you use to charge and sync your iphone/ipod), sits in the glovebox. You just attach your ipod, and your good to go.

Until you try to change the song with the steering wheel control that is. Then your screwed (Unless someone comes up with a solution).

1. That's cool they did this finally.
2. That's dumb it doesn't work. But when you use the steering wheel controls and you cycle through the modes does it go to aux or skip it? My 06 would skip it. I forget if my 11 does or doesn't.

Good question, I'm not sure. However, just to note, this model also has the aux input as well. In case, for example, my wife gets in the truck and wants to use her iPhone for music instead.

The integrated iPod connection actually uses the XM channel. So, if I hit the "Radio" button a couple of times, it cycles through until it gets to XM, that is where the music will play from now.

Hope that makes sense.

Another note, the quality from the music using the iPod integration is far and away better than using the aux input. Because it is actually using the source of the music, instead of the headphone jack on the iPod/iPhone.

from my experience the steering wheel controls do not allow you to change songs on the ipod connector.

You may want to read your manual... Just because you have a built-in iPod dock doesn't necessarily mean the steering wheel controls are integrated with it.... :dunno:

Believe me, I've dug through the manual that was with the car aplenty, no mention of iPod in there at all.

I talked to the salesman who sold me the car, he said that he is going to have to look for, and mail me a seperate manual for the iPod integration. He said that the User Manual for the truck, does not address it.

With my iPod Touch if you just momentarily hit the bottom button it will change songs and if you hold it, it toggles between, A,B,C, CD, Aux.

This is what I want to do! So, did you change a setting of some sort to get it to function like that? Or, was it working this way when you purchased it?

When I hit the bottom button, here's what happens. Momentarily hit (up or down), will switch over to FM/AM, etc. When I HOLD it up or down, it will change the display text (from artist, to playlist, to song). But, just changes the text, that's all.

^^^^its not even worth it to buy a hu. it sounds just fine through the aux.

That's the way mine has always worked. I didn't change anything on it. Are you using an iPod or a Touch?

I do have one complaint though. Mine will charge an iPod but not a Touch.

The only two devices I've tried it with are and iPod mini I've had laying around (which takes a charge and plays back just fine), and an old iPhone (essentially and iPod touch). The iPhone doesn't take a charge, from what I can tell.

If your's has worked this way from day one, then I think it's a setting issue on my end. They are mailing me the manual, once I get it in, I'll dig through it and see if I can find any settings I need to change. Thanks for the knowledge though. I knew I wasn't crazy in thinking that the steering wheel control should be able to next/previous in regards to scrolling for songs.

I have the same problem with my 2011. I gave up and just use my aux cable now.

Let us know what you find out. The steering wheel controls do the same thing for the XM radio. the bottom left button goes through your presets or if you hold it - goes through the genres of music. Who wants to do that? I want to go through individual stations. Freakin annoying.

I'll definitely let you know what I found out. It's a mission of mine now.

I did another google search in regards to this. I ran across a user manual from some after market integration kit. On their manual, they state there are two modes that can be used. One is "Playlist mode" and the other is "Direct mode". Playlist mode uses the steering wheel control to toggle between playlist, Direct mode uses the steering wheel control to toggle through songs. Their default seems to be playlist, however, to get it into Direct mode, you have to flip a dip switch of some sort on the unit itself. My thinking is that the OEM unit may possibly be the same thing. I'll have to dig into the dash to locate it though. Guess this can be a weekend thing.

Unless, I'm able to use the manual to change it by some sort of "software" setting.

The seek button on the HU will also toggle to the next song.

yeah, but we are lazy bums and don't want to reach over to the HU. haha.

At this point its just a matter of principle for me.

The Nissan iPod Interface Owner's Manual has a tiny blurb on pg 15 that talks about the this, labeled "Steering Wheel Controls (Typical):"

Hold the UP / DOWN button To*:

- Category, Setup or List Selection mode - Select.
- Playback Mode - Select Next or Previous Song.

* Some models may differ.

I'm not sure how to set to the Playback mode. I just got a 2012 Pro-4x also, was thinking of fixing crap that the engineers didn't think of (change out slot-load oem dvd with blu-ray player being one thing)
