I posted this in the General section earlier, We (Currie Ent ) are thinking of developing a replacement 9 inch and D60 rear for the Titan.. We have nothing yet. I need feed bake from the people on this forum as to what you use the trucks for and what failures you have had. The more response to this the better. I need to show the powers that be that there is a market for this.

This is not spam. I am trying to gather info on what you guys feel is needed.

Thanks for your time

The main failures have been the axle seals & the erlier models had spider gera failures. I think there would be alot of interest in this for the right price. if you are talking $2000.00 you mght be limited in your sales. keep it around a grand or under & there would be alot of interest.

Thanks for the input, Price is always a concern when developing new product. That being said, manufacturing cost alone would be well over a grand. I dont know any pricing yet and sense we are not a vendor on this site i really can post it if i did. The goal hear is to build a rear end that will solve any issue a Titan owner would have

The ones who've replaced the early OEM Spider Gears with a Trutrac Locker haven't had any problems. The 2008 and newer doesn't have a Trutrac available and I seem to remember reading threads about 1 or 2 of those that failed. A D60 would be sweet, even sweeter if you make one for the Armada too. A few weeks ago, I rode in rtc1184's with a D60 on 38" Swampers on it and that's just flat out badarsed, TONs of torque..

My wish is that someone would manufacture a switch activated solenoid actuated pinion gear that slides from an outer gear ring to an inner gear ring, so we could have both non-Tow and Big Tow gears on the same truck.

I'd love to have a D60 on my Armada, I just don't know of one that's in a housing that will bolt up to the axle flanges of the IRS.

Like Jody said, the price will determine the market size.

The gen2 Frontiers and Xterras (2005 and up) have the same rear as the Titan (M226 rear) just 5" shorter. We mostly use are for off road.

The Titan front diff is very popular with the Frontier and Xterra's owner since it is lager and bolt right up. If there was a front replacement diff that give options like gears, lockers, and LSD's it would sell very well.

IF you make a complete rear end, along with a SAS kit for the front, I'd be all over it. Both the front and rear diffs are the weak points on these trucks. I'm glad I don't use mine for work, ohter than hauling the occasional 4-wheeler or appliance.

Retaining the tone rings is important, otherwise it's more lights on the dash...

I'd love to see a housing/axle/brake set-up for the 9"...Leaves so many options for the carrier...

Exactly what I was thinking Lou. It would be so nice to have a set of gears just for wheeling with ARB;s front and rear, then a set of gears set up for the street.

On the other hand, a pair of D60's with the portaltec portal hub conversion would be truely bad @ss.

Either way, if they can make either that will keep all the damn on board computers happy, I'm in. I will just need bare axle assemblies though. I want to set up my own 4 links.

You could keep the cost down by building a housing that would use the stock, 04-07 32 spline & 08-Up 35 spline, axle shafts and tone rings. The Titan axles bolt to the housing like the 9".
Custom tone rings for non stock gear ratio's that would work with the ECU so we could keep the cruise control, non stock gears confuse the ECU and kills the cruise control.
The D60 would get my vote.
The low pinion of the 9" takes to much power to turn. My friend lost 2/10's when he switched from a 12 Bolt to a 9", with the same gearing, in his 11.40et Nova.

A seal improvement I hope, mine is getting its second set of axle assy's here real soon due to the second seal leak, and of course, we can tell Nissan till we are blue in the face but now they have a TSB, but it doesn't say what was improved or maybe nothing was. The ABLS is what would worry me on the diffs, and provisions for it, I don't want to lose that, no need for gears for me, don't need anymore than I have. Just want no seal leaks in the future.

Since i had the Trutrac installed, it's been great! That's probably all us street guy's need, but for you pre-ruuner guy's this would be a nice option!

Also, If you need a truck for R&D, I am local and can loan you my truck for as long as you would need it. It is not my daily driver, the only real time I drive it is to keep the battery charged and go on off road trips. I can be without my truck for months if need be.

the newer models need some aftermarket support. I have a 2009 and will need new gears and some type of LSD in the near future.

Re:04 Titan R&R Std Diff 4 A Posi, D-Locker Carrier Or R&R OEM Rear End

Sorry for the length of this post

I have recently purchased a 2004 Titan 4x2 Crew Cab that's only got 59K on the drive train for mileage. I would like to improve the traction by replacing the OEM Standard Differential with a either a suitable posi-traction / limited slip carrier or locate a replacement rear end with the correct gear ratio (streets and commuting freeway not 4x4 or off road).

I know Nissan does not have a lot of options for OEM gearing and/or carries swaps in later vehicles where small parts are not available and you must replace assemblies. "Need a bushing? Need to Buy the Transmission" ,"I have seen dealers do this for years and parts managers following protocol do this since the 80's crap cars.

My next though is an OEM Rear End out of another Vehicle that came with this as a factory option as 4x4 or 4x2 but I would need a VIN and application from 2004 to order a rear end new for that price I should just build my own.

I have not yet had time to research interchange years / options with the Titans Builds, Production dates, and so on and That's why I am asking here or at the wreckers who by virtual experience and making a living will really know whats going on over Nissan Dealers following protocol.

Last but not least is the aftermarket sector Gear Companies, Truck Drive line shops,Off Road, racing, suspension shops producing drive line, suspension, steering and break parts, and nothing like good old Yankee Ingenuity someone with willingness do it and a TIG Welder and a Machine Shop with tools at your disposal helps too.

So I read some posts and it looks like several people have been down this path before with Axle leaks and side gear leak/wear issues. I am sure there is a hand full who have overcome this and I saw Curie Enterprise are currently or is considering or converting to Dana Model 60 Axles in the rear and Dana 44 in the front of the 4x4 and I saw some talk of 9" rings Possibly from a Ford Det. Locker or? Knowing these differentials myself and seeing a in other post by POPS mentioned the Detroit True track Locker in earlier models up to 2008 but I am not sure if this is fit into the OEM Titan housing, uses the same axles & sines are the same or what? so I have some questions for anyone and everyone who may know.

Does anyone know or have handy, The TITAN years with interchangeable Parts?

Or the dimensions of the earlier housings (2004 in my case) TITAN housing for the following:
Over all Width: = Axle Outer Flange to Axle Flange?
Dimensions across the inside of the rear Disk Backing Plates?
Diameter or Rear Disks?
Dimensions in width of the Pin C\L between the Mounts for rear Leaf Springs?
Dominions in Width for mounts between Rear Shocks?

Does anyone have a number / location for Currie Ent. So I may contact them with questions directly? I have some questions for the owner(s)or person doing the work.n Has anyone done business with them or talked in more detail with them about this? And anyone know if this is Drive line or late model Truck Shop?Anyone know them or hat their skill level of work is, type parts that will be using, in the final product From Currie Ent?

Please advise if you have the inside answers or done the research already Add I would appreciate and return the favor if I can one day.

Thanks to all that responded, We are currently in the design process for the new complete replacement Titan rear end. We are going to be able to offer a ford 9" and a D60 semi-float axle. Its going to take us a few weeks to get everything we need to done. The ABS sensors and factory brakes will be reused from your existing rear.

Thanks again.

Is 2-2.5% drivetrain loss very noticeable? every little bit counts when you roll 37" heavy a$$ tires
Will these be 35 spline? will you offer a custom housing option for the D60 ?

the s 60 is bigger and alot heavier which means it will eat up lot more power as well.... GMHP had an article a while back comparing the s60 to a Moser M9 which is just fab 9 inch housing. But the s60 had 3.5% more drivetrain loss than a 10 bolt and the 9 inch had like 1-1.5%....
The more research I do makes me lean to the 9
More gear contact, more pinion gear support , lighter , more ground clearance, less power loss through driveline.

OK, This is what I want..........Please :teethmast
