Anyone have an idea how much idle time is OK for the motor in the summer time? It's often 100 degrees or close to it in TX in the summer and my wife will sit in the T with motor idling to run the AC sometimes when she borrows the truck. I say even though I run full synthetic Mobil 1, I won't let her idle more than 10 minutes. Anyone have an idea of how many minutes of idle time is OK in hot temp weather? More frequent oil changes are OK with me but what about premature engine wear/damage? BTW the truck is a stock 2013, suspension mods only, no motor mods.

Other than wasting a lot of gas when she does that, no it won't harm the engine.

I've sat in the parking lot of my store for over an hour many times and it's never affected anything.

Idling does nothing harmful. Most people that live where the Winter is harsh will idle for 20 minutes or more in the morning every day to get it warm. It just burns gas.

I agree with all of the above. Just make sure the fan clutch and cooling system are up to snuff.

I remote start 5-10 minutes before I go, less if it's warm out.

I normally take coffee break in my truck every night at work with it at idle.

Just kills MPG is all.

I work outside all day or night for 12 hours a shift. When I have nothing to do I am stuck on my sight. So I start the truck and idle for 8+ hours. does nothing but it does burn up the fuel. 12 hour idle once and lost a quarter tank of gas.

Other then kill your MPG its fine. When racing in mexico we basically use ours... margarita machines and such
Best use of a Titan that I've heard yet!

I'm on board with everyone here. In the texas heat, i've idled with AC blasting many times. and not in traffic, like completely stopped and taking a nap lol. My truck had 180k Miles too and ran strong.

Good to hear from those of you who've done extended idling in hot temps outside and not had issues over several years time. I had concern over motor oil performance or other issues like carbon clogging up fuel injectors, etc. Seems like I remember a long time ago, not specific to one vehicle, it was supposed to shorten the life of the cats to idle for extended periods because of low RPMs putting out low exhaust gasses and not burning everything out of the cats. Sounds like I've got nothing to worry about here. Big thanks to everyone for the input.

put me down for no probs with idling too. i travel alot for work and live in a different state. ive had to sleep at rest stops in the winter/summer and idled up to 6 hours at a time using heat/ac.
