Quick Cabin Filter Replacement

Here's how to change your cabin air filter in 10 minutes or less. The only tools you will need are a pair of needle nose pliers, an 8mm socket and a ratchet with a 6" extension.

1. Locate your glove compartment. It's on the passenger side right in front of where the wife sits.

2. Empty all of the crap out of the glove compartment and unhook the retractable cord from the right side of the box. It will hang out of the way.

3. Push both stop pins toward the driver's side and pivot the glove compartment door down and out of the way. The door will hang without damaging it.

4. Locate the cover over the filters, unscrew the 8mm hex head screw, and remove the cover. Grab the filter on the left with a pair of needle nose pliers and pull the filter out. Slide the second filter to the left and pull it out.

5. Here's what my old filters looked like. I tried to clean the one on the left but gave up. O'Reilly Auto Parts sells replacement filters for $17.99 (MicroGard part # 3058)

6. Slide the new filters in (pay attention the flow direction arrows), put the cover over the new filters, tighten the 8mm hex head screw, hook up the retractable cord, lift the glove compartment door, push the stop pins the left again, put your crap back in the glove compartment, close the glove compartment door, have a beer.

I changed mine once, about 3 years ago! I think they are past due....

Nice write up, Quartz. Can't get much better or simpler than that.

Dealer is every 15k, and that's what I would rec if under normal use. If you go on the dirt trails a lot or live in a dusty area I say a little sooner maybe every 10-12k. Some people remove them all together for better AC flow, but if you look at what that filter traps. No thanks, I'll just change them every so often.

Fram sells a really nice setup for our trucks for $20 that includes activated charcoal... very nice filters. I would never buy anything Fram on purpose, but this product was quite nice

EDIT: Here is a link to the item

Going to try these. I've had a little bit of a mildew smell when I first turn on the air the last month and with free shipping (with a Amazon Prime trial), you can't beat this price.

Quartz helped me out too in the beginning when I was finding an easy way to change them out instead of having the dealership rip you a new hole just for doing a less-than-10 minute job. This write up is simple but great and the pictures help out tremendously. I think this should be a sticky in the Titan Interior Discussion. This question is frequently asked my many new guys. Mods?

Taken care of. I contacted an Admin and he has made this a sticky for others or newcomers.

I haven't changed these in years. About to order some Fram filters.

Good rule of thumb is to check them every few oil changes. At $20 a pop, its not terrible if they need replacing

Purchased a pair of Fram filters ([ame]http://www.amazon.com/CF10388-Fresh-Breeze-Cabin-Filter/dp/B001CEG98A/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1328666381&sr=8-1[/ame]) for $19 and installed them tonight. Just a note, I have a 2009 SE and I had to take 6 screws off (4 above the glove box, 2 below) and take the entire compartment off due to more plastic inside the box covering the air box.

Surprisingly, there were no filters already inside my truck. Is this a normal thing for Nissan not to include in the purchase of a brand new truck? They will be getting some feedback from me tomorrow. I wonder what else they decided to leave out of my truck!

Apparently the 2011's don't come with filters either!!!

I've read arrows up and arrows down on here, which is it????

Wow, 6 screws? I just had 2 which opened up the end. I would assume it's because people might have been complaining about the A/C-Heater not blowing very hard. I know when I installed my filters, I noticed a big decrease in pressure. But it's well worth it for a clean dash , plus remote start keeps it kool or warm before I get in. :bouncy:

Airflow arrows should point down.

Sorry Quarts. Didn't mean to step on your toes. Mine where installed down when I replaced the, last year, and the video says down, so I'm going with down, but looking at the filter, I really don't think it matters.

Arrows go down. At least when I replaced mine, they were down, and I installed them back down.

Someone actually made a YouTube video of this...
