Sway Bar Removal?

Howdy folks!

Just got a quick question, here.

I drive on the highway pretty regularly (anywhere from 65-78 mph) so I was wondering how safe it would be for me to remove the sway bar (technically, anti-sway bar)?

I have a 4" Rancho lift, and RideRite Airbags in the rear (those Rancho RS9000 shocks are also adjustable) so I thought I could just add some air to those and tighten up the front shocks to prevent body roll?

I love those air springs, but I didn't realize that they would reduce my "axle articulation" that much when I installed them (it's pretty substantial, around 1.5-2" on each side), so now I'm trying to make up for it in the front. IFS is kind of a pain sometimes!

Thanks for the advice!

you can just try it and see what you think. on stock struts or close to stock struts like yours it'll be pretty soft, i did that with mine, its nice, but kinda gets annoying. guys with coilovers usually take off the sway bar though.

I took off the swar bar when I had the factory struts on just to see the difference (I know it's not recommended) but my radflos were on the way. I haven't put it back on and don't plan on it! it rides smoother with it off. I'm going to have to say what everybody else does...take it off and if you don't like it you can put it back on. You're probably going to need a breaker bar for two of the bolts.

Just try it and see. I tried it when I put my Bilsteins on since I used the second perch on the strut, which stiffened up the spring a little. Even with my set up, the springs were not stiff enough. The ride was much smoother but it felt like a boat going down the freeway. Also, taking turns required some getting use to, but I wouldn't say it was dangerous.

I took mine off and don't plan on ever putting it back on. I drove up to the mountains last month with a loaded trailer and the bed of my truck with no problems. Either you will like it or you wont so give it a try.

What kind of difference do you all feel on the road with it off? More body roll...that about it?

IMO, you can haul arse through the turns better, and it simply rides better. Yes, there is more body roll and it is an adjustment at first, you def. will notice that the swaybar is gone, however after a few hundred miles of driving, you will adjust to it, and better understand how the vehicle is working, and what your suspension is doing.

I took mine off and sold it to a frontier guy. Obviously I never planned on putting it back on. I hate driving vehicles with sway bars now especially when you go over bumps sideways and it feels like you're going to smash your head into the window from the brutal side to side motion. Unless its a car made for taking turns fast, then its an essential.
