So... I have come across an 06 Titan that has been t-boned. Cranks and drives fine. Except that it can turn a circle when holding the wheel straight. I already have a 96 Hardbody sitting around here with a good frame and body. Thinking about combining them. Whatcha think? Anybody seen it done yet?

I haven't but I'd be interested to see what the weight of the VK is compared to the motor in the old hard body as well as the other geometry..

custom motor mounts, ecu, rear end (can you swap the gear set? or whole axle?) sounds fun, gonna cost a few bucks but definitely feasible.

There is a guy that did a VK swap into a sandrail and he did a bunch of custom intake work in addition to other things: http://www.jimwolftechnology.com/images/kirts_vk56_buggy_1st_run_on_dyno.qt

if you use the titan rear end you would have to shorten the axels a good bit. if you haven't already, check out infamousnissan.com there are a lot of v8 hardbodies on there but im not sure if anyone has put the vk in it..

That will be badass.. I had a 97 hardbody that I swapped in a Chevy 350 and 700R4 trans.. I can just imagine what kind of monster a VK swap would be in a hardbody..

That would be a Noteworthy VK Swap!!!

:redblob":redblob":redblob"DO IT!!! DO IT!!! DO IT!:redblob":redblob":redblob"

The weight of the VK alone would probably throw off the front/rear weight ratio?

Sounds awesome though!!! :hat:

Uprev can apparently tune the VK56 with a 6spd 350z trans behind it. Fever Racing in Tampa,FL has done it, and they are some tuning/wiring harness gurus. They have multiple vids on facebook showing RB25 and VQ35 engines running on their crates/pallets lol.

They can modify standalones to work with the stock ECU as well from what i've read.

That will be one stupid fast hardbody nissan lol.

I had a 88 HB and I couldn't see how a 350 Chevy could fit. Firewall to core support would be dam tight. I though about doing that but didn't think it would work. I would love to see some pics of that project...:)

Small cap HEI distributor, short nose water pump and a mini starter and clam shell motor mounts.. It had to sit almost an inch to the passenger side.. I'll see if I can find some pics..

Man I'm loving all these "all for it" comments and positive attitudes! This makes me wanna do it even more. I've already discussed it with some of my local buddies and they all think it's a waste of time and money. But these are the same idiots that come running to me when they can't figure out their 302/ranger or 350/ s10 swaps. I knew I'd get some positive feedback from all you hardcore T fans.

One of my buddy's in HS had 1 of those manual 5.0L Ford Rangers!

That thing was crazy fast back then!!!! I always thought that was a great idea, putting a 5.0L Mustang GT engine into a Ranger Pickup Truck!!!!

I would LOVE to see a VK56 powered Nissan Hardbody, but i REALLY think you would be better off with a moderately customized RB Swap w/ a single turbo!!!!

It would be WAY lighter & have WAY MORE HP/TQ than a stock VK56!!!!!!!!!!! :eyebrow:

I'm considering a manual trans for this beast. I think grabbing gears with that engine in a mini would be awesome. Plus I just don't like autos in mini trucks. I put a heavily machined and modified EFI 283 with a vette 6 spd in a 99 S10 Xtreme when I was a teenager. That truck was a blast to drive.

Some friends and I did an SR20DET Blacktop in a '95 King Cab a few years back...

That thing was a SOB to fit in with all the tubing and huge intercooler... Let's just say the 2.5 lb sledge got a workout on the firewall to make it fit!

Do it!!!!!!!! I was thinking about trying to do something like this if I could find a decent truck to stuff it in... I keep seeing VKs on CL for like $1000-1500...

This is a few computers ago and many phones ago, so I can't locate any just yet...

But I'll go check with some of my friends to see if they still have any...

While it was really cool, and had nutz power... I wouldn't do it again without reinforcing the frame quite a bit. You could literally feel the truck twist when you really hit it from a dead stop or low speeds!

Of course this truck had quite a bit larger turbo and more boost than the stock SR20DET...

Went through many rear ends...

Another issue was mating the wiring harness from the truck with that of the SR20... we had a local Nissan/SR20DET guru do it for us, but ended up having some unfixable electrical issues that eventually led to selling the truck...

It cost quite a bit more money than you'd expect also, with the seemingly endless odds and ends that crop up when attacking such a unique project. I don't recommend doing this unless you have lots of money and a big shop with lots of goodies, of which we had neither at the time

i saw a hardbody with a vk in one of the aussie nissan websites like 2 years ago. pretty sure it was turbod. i think rips racing in NZ had a hand in some of the fabrication. ill try and dig it up later its bookmarked with a bajillion other links.

but yeah go for it lol

Well if I do it, it'll be the VK56. And I can assure everybody that there will be NO GM PRODUCTS anywhere on or around this truck. No to sound like anti GM a$$hole, but I've had it with General Motors. That's why I bought my Titan to begin with. Anyway, when I get some time, I will start peeling this other Titan apart, and getting to the fun stuff:D. Pics will be included.

I wouldn't worry too much about weight, those old V6 VG30 motors were iron blocks so the all aluminum VK isn't dramatically heavier. Still, if you're still rollin a hard body, it's probably a good idea to replace all the suspension bushings and shocks and perhaps even the springs with all new parts. I did that on my dad's 95 a couple years back and man did it need it!

So should it be a sleeper, or a showpiece? Hmmm... decisions decisions.

Did this happen? I keep wanting a crawler and keep thinking a hardbody vk but that vh45 would be sweet too!
